Election Day Nears

Election Day (Nov. 3) is coming and the campaigns are picking up steam as candidates reach out to residents to ask for their votes in the election. The Craig Mael-Bob Driscoll race for Council President tops the slate as both candidates seek the top elected position in town government.

The School Committee election, with six candidates — Laura Callis, Tino Capobianco, Christopher Hurley, Marcie Moline, Ron Vecchia, and Jared Wickham — is also generating significant interest. The new School Committee will be in office when the new Winthrop High School/Middle School opens next year.

Two district councilor races are also heating up. Precinct 2 Councillor James Letterie is being challenged by Mike Bertino while in Precinct 4, Paula Caruccio and Heather Engman are running for the seat currently held by Craig Mael.

There are also elections for seats on the Housing Authority and Board of Library Trustees.

Councilor-at-Large Attorney Philip Boncore and Precinct 6 Councillor Linda Calla are unopposed in their bid for re-election and we hope you’ll check the box next to their names as a show of support and gratitude for their outstanding public service to our community.
