Police Blotter 11-05-2020

The following incident reports are among the calls to which the Winthrop Police Department responded on the listed dates:

MONDAY, OCT. 19

0828: An officer responded to a report of a parked motor vehicle (MV) obstructing traffic in the construction area on Linden St. The officer had the owner move the MV.

0853: A resident came into the station to report that he had been the victim of identity fraud.

1117: A resident reported that his MV had been broken into overnight.

1221: A resident came into the station to report that he had been the victim of identity fraud.

1424: A larceny from a school bus at the high school was reported. The officer filed a report.

1515: A resident came into the station to report that she has been receiving threats through social media. The officer filed a report.

2131: Officers responded to reports of two males fighting in the Elks’ parking lot. Both parties refused to give a statement to the police and both refused medical attention. The officer will file a report and issued summonses to both parties for a court hearing.

2245: One of the parties from the previous incident called the station to report that he is a tenant and that the other party is his landlord who wants him to vacate the premises. The officer spoke to both parties and directed them not to have any further contact with the other until the court hearing.

TUESDAY, OCT. 20

0100: An officer stopped a motor vehicle (MV) at Pleasant St. and Waldemar Ave. for the civil motor vehicle infraction (CMVI) of defective equipment (no plate lights). The officer gave a verbal warning to the operator.

1153: A resident came into the station to report a case of identity theft. The officer filed a report.

1403: An officer stopped a motor vehicle (MV) at Pauline and Walden Sts. for the civil motor vehicle infraction (CMVI) of defective equipment (excessive window tint and after-market lighting). The officer issued a citation to the operator.

1508: An Overlook Drive resident came into the station to report the theft of an Amazon delivery. The officer filed a report.

1549: A resident came into the station to report a larceny that occurred at Veterans Rd. and Hadassah Way. The officer filed a report.

1604: A female resident called to report that a male party known to her had yelled obscene words to her as he passed by her. The female said that she wanted the incident to be noted.

1653: A Winthrop St. resident reported that the retaining wall at his residence  had been struck and damaged by a hit-and-run operator. The officer filed a report.

1711: A resident came into the station to report being a victim of identity fraud.

1713: An officer directed a group of 15-20 youths who were playing basketball at the Swede Nelson playground on Pond St. to wear masks or else their parents might be fined.

WEDNESDAY, OCT. 21

0641: An officer stopped a motor vehicle (MV) on Main St. for the civil motor vehicle infraction (CMVI) of a red light violation. The officer gave a verbal warning to the operator.

1830: A resident came into the station to report the theft of her son’s bicycle. The officer filed a report.

2303: An officer stopped a motor vehicle (MV) at Revere and Hutchinson Sts. for the civil motor vehicle infraction (CMVI) of defective equipment (no brake lights). The officer gave a verbal warning to the operator.

2311: An officer directed a person in a MV to leave the area of the cemetery on Kennedy Rd.

2321: An officer stopped a motor vehicle (MV) at Veterans Rd. and Almont St. for the civil motor vehicle infraction (CMVI) of a stop sign violation. The officer gave a verbal warning to the operator.

2335: An officer stopped a MV on Shirley St. and directed the operator to renew his license.

2341: An officer stopped a motor vehicle (MV) at Shirley and Payson Sts. for the civil motor vehicle infraction (CMVI) of defective equipment. The officer gave a verbal warning to the operator.

THURSDAY, OCT. 22

0843: A resident in the 700 block of Shirley St. reported that the alarm of a parked motor vehicle (MV) keeps going off. The owner of the MV explained to the officer that his key FOB fell into the water while he was fishing on Yirrell Beach and he is unable to get into his vehicle. The owner said AAA is on the way, but he was informed by the officer that if he cannot resolve the problem, his MV will be towed.

1243: A resident reported finding a stray dog in the 200 block of Washington Ave. The owner was located and the dog will be returned.

1403: A caller reported that two pit bulls are running loose on Otis St. Officers were unable to locate the dogs, however.

1440: A female party came into the station to report being harassed by two male parties. The officer filed a report.

1632: A resident came into the station to report being a victim of identity theft. The officer filed a report.

1957: A Floyd St. resident reported that his driveway was being partially blocked by a MV. The officer had the owner move his MV.

2144: An officer stopped a motor vehicle (MV) on Main St. for the civil motor vehicle infraction (CMVI) of a red light violation. The officer gave a verbal warning to the operator.

FRIDAY, OCT. 23

1304: A resident called to report that a black dog was running into traffic on Bayou St. The responding officer was unable to locate the jaywalking pup.

1654: An officer stopped a motor vehicle (MV) on Sagamore Ave. for the civil motor vehicle infraction (CMVI) of defective equipment. The officer gave a verbal warning to the operator, who agreed to fix the violations forthwith.

1822: A person came into the station to report being struck in a crosswalk at Cutler St. and Veterans Rd. The reporting party was not injured and the operator  of the MV was located in Everett. The reporting party did not want to press charges; the operator said he was unaware that he had struck anyone.

2109: An officer dispersed three motor vehicles playing music loudly at the boat yard in the 500 block of Shirley St.

2352: An officer stopped a motor vehicle (MV) on Sargent St. for the civil motor vehicle infraction (CMVI) of defective equipment (no plate light). The officer gave a verbal warning to the operator.

SATURDAY, OCT. 24

0017: An officer stopped a motor vehicle (MV) on Main St. for the civil motor vehicle infraction (CMVI) of a red light violation. The officer gave a verbal warning to the operator. 

0051: An officer stopped a motor vehicle (MV) at Winthrop St. and James Ave. for the civil motor vehicle infraction (CMVI) of defective equipment. The officer gave a verbal warning to the operator.

0955: An officer stopped a motor vehicle (MV) at Veterans Rd. and Washington Ave. for the civil motor vehicle infraction (CMVI) of being an unregistered MV. The officer gave a verbal warning to the operator, who pulled over to renew his registration on-line.

1034: An officer stopped a motor vehicle (MV) at Winthrop and Belcher Sts. for the civil motor vehicle infraction (CMVI) of a one-way violation. The officer gave a verbal warning to the operator.

1339: A resident came into the station to report being the victim of an identity theft for unemployment fraud. The officer filed a report.

1654: An officer stopped a motor vehicle (MV) at Shirley St. and Hawthorn Ave. for the civil motor vehicle infraction (CMVI) of a stop sign violation. The officer issued a citation to the operator.

1705: An officer stopped a motor vehicle (MV) at Main St. and Pleasant Park Rd. for a civil motor vehicle infraction (CMVI). The officer gave a verbal warning to the operator.

1931: An officer moved along a couple in a parked car on Grand View Ave.

2047: A caller reported finding a wallet on the ground in the parking lot in the vicinity of the Winthrop Y.C. An officer retrieved the wallet and called the owner, who came to the station to get it.

2133: A caller reported a fight in the street on Grovers Ave. involving three males and two females. The officer determined that there had been a mutual assault & battery. One of the combatants was transported to the hospital.

2225: An officer moved along three persons in a MV from the parking lot at Short Beach.

2312: An officer stopped a motor vehicle (MV) on Lincoln St. for the civil motor vehicle infraction (CMVI) of defective equipment. The officer gave a verbal warning to the operator.

2319: An officer stopped a motor vehicle (MV) at Pauline and Fremont Sts. for a civil motor vehicle infraction (CMVI). The officer gave a verbal warning to the operator.

2325: An officer stopped a MV at Revere and Bayou Sts. When he determined that the operator did not have a valid driver’s license, one of the passengers was able to take control of the MV.

SUNDAY, OCT. 25

0013: An officer directed persons playing music loudly at Governors Drive to turn down the volume.

0014: An officer stopped a motor vehicle (MV) at Revere St. and Sagamore Ave. for a civil motor vehicle infraction (CMVI). The officer gave a verbal warning to the operator.

0041: An officer stopped a motor vehicle (MV) on Pleasant St. for the civil motor vehicle infraction (CMVI) of speeding. The officer gave a verbal warning to the operator.

0046: An officer stopped a motor vehicle (MV) on Veterans Rd. for a civil motor vehicle infraction (CMVI). The officer gave a verbal warning to the operator.

0052: An officer stopped a motor vehicle (MV) on Woodside Ave. for the civil motor vehicle infraction (CMVI) of defective equipment. The officer gave a verbal warning to the operator.

1015: An officer stopped a motor vehicle (MV) at Winthrop St. and South Ave. for a civil motor vehicle infraction (CMVI). When the officer determined that the operator did not have a valid license, the owner of the MV was allowed to come to the scene to take control of the vehicle. The officer issued a citation to the vehicle owner for the criminal offense of allowing an unlicensed operator to operate his MV. The officer also issued a citation to the original operator for the criminal offense of unlicensed operation of a MV and for the civil violation.

1523: An officer stopped a motor vehicle (MV) at Otis St. and Tafts Ave. for the civil motor vehicle infraction (CMVI) of defective equipment (excessive window tint). The officer gave a verbal warning to the operator, who was not the owner of the MV. The officer directed the operator to tell the owner to remove the tint forthwith.

1603: An officer stopped a MV with only a front registration plate at Tafts and Maryland Aves. The officer directed the operator to move the plate to the rear of the MV. The other plate had been reported as stolen in January.

1935: An officer stopped a motor vehicle (MV) at Banks and Main Sts. for a civil motor vehicle infraction (CMVI). The officer gave a verbal warning to the operator.

1958: An officer stopped a motor vehicle (MV) on Revere St. for a civil motor vehicle infraction (CMVI). The officer gave a verbal warning to the operator.

2232: An officer ordered a tow for a MV parked illegally at Main and Paine Sts.

MONDAY, OCT. 26

0050: An officer issued a parking ticket to a MV on Bayview Ave.

0719: An officer ordered a tow for a MV parked in the No Parking zone at Winthrop and Morton Sts.
