Police Blotter 09-17-2020

The following incident reports are among the calls to which the Winthrop Police Department responded on the listed dates:

Monday, Aug. 31

1240: A person came to the station to report the theft of a registration plate from his motor vehicle (MV).

1443: An officer issued parking tickets to seven motor vehicles that did not have resident parking permits on Pt. Shirley.

1454: An officer stopped a motor vehicle (MV) at Revere St. and Kennedy Rd. for the civil motor vehicle infraction (CMVI) of operating with an expired registration. The operator parked the MV on private property and was advised to contact the Registry to renew the registration.

1613: Vandals broke windows and caused other damage to the building at 15-17 Revere St. The officer will file a report.

1809: An officer stopped a MV on Pleasant St. and issued a citation to the operator for the criminal offense of unlicensed operation of a MV.

1818: An officer stopped a motor vehicle (MV) on Main St. and issued a citation to the operator for the civil motor vehicle infraction (CMVI) of speeding.

1920: Officers responded to a motor vehicle accident (MVA) involving a pedestrian at Pleasant and Pauline Sts. The victim was transported to the hospital and the officers put a 24-hour hold on the MV pending an investigation.

2323: Officers responded to a report of a noisy party in a backyard on Sagamore Ave. The youthful party-goers dispersed when the officers arrived.

Tuesday, Sept. 1

1005: An officer stopped a motor vehicle (MV) at Pauline and Fremont Sts. for the civil motor vehicle infraction (CMVI) of failing to stop for a stop sign. The officer gave a verbal warning to the operator.

1900: A Myrtle Ave. resident who called the station regarding a neighbor who is taking up two parking spaces was informed that the parking area in question is on private property and therefore it is not a police matter.

1924: A Taylor St. resident who came to the station to report a situation involving the Probate Court was informed that it is not a police matter.

2248: An officer issued a parking ticket to a MV at Hannaford Park after closing hours.

Wednesday, Sept. 2

0033: An officer directed persons playing music loudly in their MV to turn down the volume.

0715: An officer responded to a noise complaint from a resident in a building on Shirley Ave. and directed the offending party, who was using her Peloton, to turn down the volume on her TV. 

0737: A report of a dead possum on Hutchinson St. was referred to the DPW.

1034: A hit-and-run MVA with property damage only was reported in the parking lot of a local business.

1233: An officer directed the owner of a motor vehicle (MV) blocking a driveway on Lincoln St. to move the MV.

1301: An officer directed the owner of a pick-up truck that was parked in a handicapped spot in the 400 block of Winthrop St. to move his truck.

1452: A resident reported being defrauded of $2450 in connection with a supposed job offer. The officer will file a report.

1618: A resident reported that her parked MV had been struck overnight by a hit-and-run operator.

2007: A resident reported an assault & battery by a female party. The officer determined that the altercation revolved around a landlord-tenant dispute and will file a report.

Thursday, Sept. 3

0022: An officer stopped a motor vehicle (MV) at Main and Paine Sts. for the civil motor vehicle infraction of speeding and issued a citation to the operator.

0142: A repossession company reported taking a MV on Bowdoin St.

0217: An officer directed persons who were moving into an apartment in the 400 block of Winthrop St. and using power tools to cease doing so until the morning.

0817: A resident reported that persons were taking photos of jets departing and landing at Logan Airport at the Belle Isle Bridge. The individuals were Melrose High students who produced valid identification.

1119: A Shore Drive resident reported that her MV had been struck and damaged by a hit-and-run operator overnight. The matter was referred to the State Police.

1334: An Amelia Ave. resident reported a breaking & entering (B&E) into his motor vehicle (MV) overnight. The perpetrator rummaged through the MV, but the owner reported that nothing was taken.

1505: A Pleasant St. resident reported the theft of $100 from her wallet that she had left in her unlocked MV during the night.

1524: A resident reported receiving fraudulent phone bills in the mail at her home. The officer will file a report.

1639: An officer issued a parking ticket to a MV overhanging a driveway on Nevada St.

1655: A Beach Rd. resident reported that his MV had been egged three days previously.

1855: A Main St. resident reported a B&E into her MV overnight and that $15.00 had been taken. The resident may have video of the incident. The officer will file a report.

Friday, Sept. 4

0941: An officer stopped a motor vehicle (MV) at Crest Ave. and Hutchinson St. for the civil motor vehicle infraction of speeding (43 m.p.h. in a 30 m.p.h. zone) and issued a written warning to the operator.

1032: An officer stopped the operator of a moped at Shore Drive and Beach Rd for the civil motor vehicle infraction of not wearing a helmet. The officer gave a verbal warning to the operator.

1856: An officer issued parking tickets to motor vehicles on Grandview Ave. that did not have resident parking stickers.

2024: An officer stopped a motor vehicle (MV) at Crest Ave. and Hutchinson St. for the civil motor vehicle infraction of failing to stop for a red light. The officer gave a verbal warning to the operator.

2240: An officer dispersed two persons in a MV from the Short Beach parking lot.

2246: An officer dispersed a group of five persons in a MV from Hannaford Park.

2320: An officer stopped a scooter at Revere St. and Summit Ave. for the civil infraction of a headlight violation. The operator legally parked the scooter and he and his passenger walked home.

Saturday, Sept. 5

0018: An officer stopped a motor vehicle (MV) on Shirley St. for the civil motor vehicle infraction of speeding and issued a citation to the operator.

0811: An officer issued a parking ticket to a MV parked too close to the corner in the No Parking zone at Shore Drive and Cutler St.

0817: A Shirley St. resident who had reported that his dog was missing was reunited with his dog, which was found on Hale Ave.

1450: A resident reported being the victim of identity theft. The officer will file a report.

1737: Officers responded to a MVA at Bartlett Rd. and Pleasant St. involving a Ford Explorer and a Mini Cooper. A four year-old child was transported to the Boston Medical Center.

2104: A group of persons loudly celebrating at a birthday party on Quincy Ave. agreed to shut down the party.

2152: An officer stopped a motor vehicle (MV) at Revere St. and Deane Ave. for the civil motor vehicle infraction of violating the hands-free cell phone law. The officer gave a verbal warning to the operator.

2157: An officer dispersed a group from Short Beach on Revere St.

2204: An officer dispersed a group from Hannaford Park.

2233: An officer stopped a motor vehicle (MV) at Main St. and Amelia Ave. for the civil motor vehicle infraction of an equipment violation. The officer gave a verbal warning to the operator.

2252: An officer stopped a motor vehicle (MV) on Bellevue Ave. The officer ordered the MV to be towed and will issue a summons to the operator for a criminal offense.

Sunday, Sept. 6

0244: An officer directed a group of party-goers at an Upland Rd. residence to turn off their music for the evening.

1815: An officer stopped a motor vehicle (MV) on Main St. for a civil motor vehicle infraction and gave a verbal warning to the operator.

2028: An officer stopped a motor vehicle (MV) at Main and Wilshire Sts. for the civil motor vehicle infraction of not having its lights on. The officer gave a verbal warning to the operator.

2049: An officer directed a loud group of party-goers on Bellevue Ave. to cease for the night.

Monday, Sept. 7

0042: An officer stopped a motor vehicle (MV) on Walden St. for the civil motor vehicle infraction of not having its lights on. The officer gave a verbal warning to the operator.

0724: An Orlando Ave. resident reported that his MV had been broken into overnight. A rear window was smashed, but no items were taken.
