Letter to the Editor

Dear Editor:

My husband and I have lived in Winthrop for 20 years and love the community feel and the beauty of living near the ocean.  We read the Transcript every week, and for the first time feel compelled to write. First a small thing.  The crosswalks arrangement on Crest Avenue done a while ago isn›t working.  No one seems to use them. And if you do, the yellow warning  lights embedded in the street are so strange no one stops!

The real reason for this letter is regarding Hagman Road. I kept reading the comments about how walking is “good” for you.  There are however many people in Winthrop (myself included) who have limited mobility. This poses a problem if you have to get to an appointment or carry a purchase back to the car.   Especially in the winter!   I walk VERY slowly and have to stop often. There are so many places to take a walk here with all the parks and beaches and I prefer to walk there.

We also love French Square  and come often, but never had a problem parking before. It was difficult getting a parking space close to the bank today.  I hope “the powers that be” take these comments into consideration when making any permanent changes.  Perhaps a meeting with the folks who use the Robert A. DeLeo Senior Center would be helpful.

Sincerely,

Patricia Reddy
