The 25th Annual Holiday Lighting

The 25th Annual Tree Lighting and kick-off to the Small Business Weekend will take place in Winthrop Center from 3-6 p.m on Friday, Nov. 25. with the actual tree lighting around 5:30 p.m.

Hosted by the Winthrop Chamber of Commerce, businesses will be open. There will be entertainment games, prizes, refreshments, raffles, pony rides, free photos with Santa.

Red Cross and Fire Department to install alarms

The Winthrop Fire Department and the American Red Cross will be installing fire detectors and carbon monoxide detectors in homes around Winthrop built before 1975 this Saturday, Nov. 19. To see if your home qualifies call 617-539-1062.

NYC Shopping trip with Parks and Rec

Travel to New York City for a Saturday/Sunday overnight trip on December 10 and 11 Depart 5:45 am Saturday morning return Sunday at 10 pm.

THANKSGIVING PIE SALE at St. Johns’s

 St John’s Episcopal Church is selling delicious Thanksgiving pies to benefit Community Servings, a local non-profit that delivers healthy meals to critically-ill, homebound individuals in Winthrop and throughout eastern Massachusetts. Pies cost $30 and are prepared by some of Boston’s top chefs – best of all, each pie sold funds an entire week’s worth of nutritious home-delivered meals to a person who is too ill to shop or cook for themselves. Please order online at www.WinthropPies.com. All orders will be available for pick up the day before Thanksgiving, between 2:00 and 8:00 pm, at the St. John’s Episcopal Church Parish Hall.

2017 RESIDENT PARKING PERMIT ONLINE


Online applications for 2017 Resident Parking Permits are now being accepted. There is no fee for a parking permit if you apply online.
There is a fee of $10.00 for a visitor’s placard whether you apply online or in person. This fee is waived for senior citizens or residents with a
valid handicapped parking placard or plate issued by the RMV. Please visit http://www.town.winthrop.ma.us/resident-parking- program/pages/resident-parking-stickers to determine if you are eligible for a parking permit.

2017 permits will not be mailed until December 1. If you do not currently have a permit for your vehicle, and need one prior to December 1, permits are still available for 2016 at a reduced cost. In-Person applications for 2017 permits will not be accepted until 2017. There is a $5 fee for a permit if you apply in person. This fee is waived for senior citizens or residents with a valid handicapped parking placard or plate issued by the RMV.

TURKEY SHOOT BY OSIA on nov. 21

“The Fourth Annual Turkey Shoot,” presented by Winthrop Mixed Lodge #2057 Order Sons of Italy in America, will take place on Monday, November 21, at the Winthrop Lodge of Elks, 191 Washington Avenue, Winthrop.  Doors open at 6:30 p.m.

Join the Sons of Italy for a great night of fun.  There will be a door prize, raffles, a Money Tree, and many chances to win turkeys, cider, pies,  vegetables, and turkey dinner fixins’.  This is Mixed Lodge’s big fundraiser.  Proceeds go to the Lodge’s student scholarship fund and charitable endeavors.  All are welcome to join in the “Shoot.”  This is truly a fun event!

CANDLELIGHT VIGIL PLANNED

Please share an half-hour of your time with Portal To Hope at 5:00 p.m. this Saturday, November 19, for a Candlelight Vigil in front of St. John the Evangelist Church located at 320 Winthrop Street in Winthrop, Massachusetts.  The International Day to Eliminate Violence Against Women begins in November with 16 Days of Activism to stop violence and oppression.  We invite you to share your activism on Saturday by joining us!  Please invite your family and friends!

WHS THANKSGIVING GAME TICKETS

Tickets for the Revere-Winthrop Thanksgiving football game will be on sale at the gate on the morning of the game. and are $10 for adults and $5 for children.

The game will be played on Nov. 24 at 10 a.m. at Harry Della Russo Stadium.
