Letters to the Editor

Veterans Day

(The following poem was written and delivered by Christopher Lutchman, nephew of Veteran’s Agent Roseann Trionfi-Mazzuchelli, during last week’s Veterans Day services.)

On Veterans Day we honor all,

Who answered to a Service call.

Soldiers young, and Soldiers old,

Fought for freedom, brave and bold.

Some have lived, while others died,

And all of them deserve our pride.

We’re proud of all the Soldiers who

Kept thinking of Red, White, and Blue.

They fought for us and all our rights.

They fought through many days and nights.

And though we may not know each name,

We thank ALL VETERANS just the same.

Hope you have a Happy Veterans Day!

Town Clerk thanks

election team

Thanks to our Election Team!

The morning after an election, is always a time to look back, see what was successful and think of ways to do it better the next time. Our office has been flooded with calls of kudos for a job well done – and it is important to recognize all the folks who work together to make this happen .  Election Day preparation begins the night before when John MacDougall and his night team go to the polling locations and set up tables, and voting booths. Margaret Larity also assists in the opening and closing of the Senior Center; Mike Hickey at Golden Drive; and Jimmy Leary at the Cummings School.

Then on election morning we have six precincts and each precinct has a Warden who manages a team of 6-8 other people. They start at 630 am and leave at the very end – usually 8:30pm. We have night crew teams and the Registrars of Voters board members who come in at 8 pm to assist in the closing of the polls and oversee our process here in Town Hall. We have seven police officers who secure our polling locations and Town Hall during the day and night to enforce laws and maintain order. We also utilize community service hours from students from Winthrop High School as well as Malden Catholic. We believe there are over 65 people who worked the election yesterday for our community.

So many thanks to  Betty Maylor, Edith Raymond, Barbara Butters, Cindy Corkhum, Andrea Blackshire, Vincent DiGiralmo, Vikki Maloney, Anne Broder, Anna Ciarcia, Judith Anderson, Karin Chavis, Billie Finocchio, Yvonne Cernaro, Barbara Flockhart, Robert Gillis, Grace Federico, Grace Palmer, Ronald Spinney, Arthur Rosenberg, Darrell Dupont, David Guiffree, Yuriy Melnyk, Pat Hurley, Paula D’Agostino, Mike DiLuiso, Jeanne Gillis, Ann Carver, Dolores Russo, Ben Bramhall, Brenda Curry, Marcia Shulman , Janis Larossee, Pam Spoto, Lauren Mazzachuelli, Paul Mazzachuelli, Ro Trionfi-Mazzachuelli, Jeannette Trionfi, Joanne Sacco, Richard Dean, Geraldine Bennett, Rose Renoni, Ruth Vosolo, John Macero, Elaine Abrams, Jodee Harris, Maria Bergman, Patricia Harrison, Mary Hagan, Virginia Wallace, Janice Pomeroy, Mary Vitiello, Denise Mahoney, Claire Hubbard, Marie Wynne, Kevin O’Sullivan, Catherine Bernstein, Patty Hames, Meredith Hurley, Sharon Sicurella, Kelly Parker, Diane Nalen and of course our office staff –  Assistant Town Clerk Joanne DeMato and Senior Clerk/Council Clerk Denise Quist!
