Mael Speaks on Scholarships: Notes Importance of Scholarship Funds

What a refreshing start to the Town Council meeting to hear a well-known and respected person like Rona Mael talk about high school scholarships and their importance to graduating seniors. A long-time member of the Winthrop Scholarship Committee, Rona said it has been increasingly difficult to raise funds for the scholarships that her committee presents each year. She is reaching out to residents in the hope that their generous donations will allow the committee to continue to help our high school students defray the increasing costs of a college education.

We have known Rona’s great work in our town for many years, especially for her volunteer contributions and involvement at Temple Tifereth Israel where she and president Sandra Pellegrino have done so much to sustain the synagogue as an important institution in our community.

Rona Mael’s eloquence in delivering her important remarks about education was impressive, but the proudest person in the Joseph Harvey Room had to be her son, Councilor Craig Mael, who is distinguishing himself with his service in town government.
