Chamber Announces Holiday Lighting Festival

Santa Claus, Elmo, and Lucky Bob will kick-off the holiday season in Winthrop Center on the day after Thanksgiving.  There’s lots of fun in store for the whole family as the Chamber of Commerce puts on its 21st annual Holiday Lighting Festival from 3:00-6:00 p.m. November 23.

Pony rides will take place from 3:00 – 5:00 and there will be free photos with Santa Claus in French Square also from 3:00 – 5:00. Lots of tasty treats that day too, as Winthrop Rotary will be serving free hot popcorn and WCAT will be making cotton candy.

The traditional children’s hat contest will be at 5:15 pm with prizes for the most festive, most original, and funniest, followed by a kids dance competition.

The entertainment schedule for the day features a great lineup (all times approximate): 3:00-Cervizzi’s Martial Arts Academy, 3:15-Winthrop Girl Scouts, 3:30-Lucky Bob!, 4:15-Winthrop School of Performing Arts, 4:30-WHS Vocal Vikings, 4:45-John&Lori Wadkins & students, 5:00-Winthrop Playmakers.

The highlight of the day is when Santa Claus arrives on the fire engine, with the Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts leading the procession, for the tree lighting at 5:30. Then, the raffle drawing for two $250 Winthrop Gift Certificates takes place, where the winner must be present.

The Chamber’s annual Holiday Lighting Festival is sponsored by Massport with assistance from the Police Dept., Fire Dept., and DPW.
