Were does the time go? It seems like it was just yesterday that the Five Sisters Swim race was a new and novel undertaking in Winthrop. But last Saturday’s race marked the 15th annual race event, and once again it was a very successful and well-organized event.
For the ninth year in a row, Winthrop resident Jamie Crowley was the overall winner in the 2.4 mile swim. Crowley, who is an airplane pilot, has shown incredible endurance in the Winthrop waters, as has his wife, Tara, who finished second in the women’s division. (The Crowleys then hosted a wonderful cookout for all the swimmers in their backyard following the race).
We join the Five Sisters Swim organizing committee of Art Gray, Shane Sherwood, and Warren MacPhail in thanking Town Harbormaster Chucky Famolare for his efforts in securing the waters and making it a safe race for all the competitors. We understand that Mr. Famolare went above and beyond the call of duty and even prevented a fishing boat from getting too close to the swim race course.
A great event takes a lot of people working together and The Five Sisters Swim has certainly been a case of teamwork setting the foundation to a great town event.
