Commonwealth Clinical Services, Inc. (CCS), the Winthrop Board of Health, the Winthrop Chamber of Commerce, and Commonwealth Primary Care, Inc. will partner to host the Winthrop Community Health Forum on Wednesday, October 21, 2026, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Arthur T. Cummings School Cafeteria in Winthrop.

Sponsored by the Winthrop Foundation, the free community event will offer valuable health services and resources. NeighborHealth will provide flu and COVID-19 vaccinations, and Commonwealth Clinical Services, Inc. will offer free blood pressure screenings. The Forum will provide complimentary refreshments, giveaways, and raffle prizes.

This year’s forum holds special significance as it is dedicated to the memory of Sandra Hurley, RN, MBA, N-E, BC and former president of Commonwealth Clinical Services, Inc., whose lifelong dedication to nursing, education, and community service made a lasting difference in the lives of countless individuals and families.

The mission of the Winthrop Community Health Forum is to promote a healthier community by connecting residents with information, services, and resources that empower individuals and families to make informed decisions about their health and well-being. Established more than 25 years ago by former Massachusetts Speaker of the House Robert DeLeo, the forum was led by Speaker DeLeo until his retirement in 2020. He passed on its leadership to local organizations committed to the health and welfare of the community.

Honoring the Legacy of Sandra Hurley

Sandra Hurley and her late husband, Dr. William B. Hurley, founded Commonwealth Clinical Services, Inc. in 2005. With a simple but enduring mission: to provide exceptional, compassionate care while treating every patient and family with dignity and respect.

A dedicated nurse, accomplished health care leader, and lifelong advocate for education, Sandra earned her nursing degree from Boston City Hospital. She went on to earn a bachelor’s degree in human services and a master’s degree in business administration, and held teaching certification through the Massachusetts Department of Education. Sandra served as an Adjunct Professor for Ana Maria College’s Master of Business Administration program and an instructor for the Medical Careers Program at Winthrop High School.

In 2019, Sandra received the STAR Award from the Home Care Alliance of Massachusetts, recognizing her exceptional contributions to patient care and her community. Beyond her professional accomplishments, Sandra was deeply committed to serving those in need. She regularly participated in initiatives to feed and clothe Boston’s homeless and took part in a weeklong medical mission to Constanza, Dominican Republic, in 2018, helping provide health care, clean water, and essential supplies to residents of the region

Her expertise extended beyond clinical care, including a 1994 publication in Nursing Clinics of North America titled “Suburban Home Care: Cost, Financing, and Delivery.”

Sandra’s commitment to nursing and compassionate care lives on through her daughter, Jeanne Holgersen, a nurse practitioner who followed in her mother’s footsteps and was the first nurse practitioner in Massachusetts to open her own practice. Jeanne continues that tradition of patient-centered care through Commonwealth Primary Care, Inc., which is also located in Winthrop. In addition, Jeanne has assumed the role of President of Commonwealth Clinical Services, Inc. for a seamless transition for employees, patients, and business partners.

The dedication of this year’s Winthrop Community Health Forum honors Sandra’s enduring legacy and continues the mission Sandra championed throughout her life: strengthening the health, dignity, and well-being of the community.
