Students head back to school in Winthrop on Wednesday, Sept. 2.
There will be two full days of classes, with school being closed for the Labor Day weekend on Friday, Sept. 4 and Monday, Sept. 7 before students hit their regular schedule for the year on Tuesday, Sept. 8.
The last day of school, provided there are no snow days, is currently scheduled for Wednesday, June 16, which will be a half day. If the storms hit hard this school year, the last day of school with five snow days is set for Thursday, June 24.
Winter break begins with a half day on Wednesday, Dec. 23, with students returning to school in the new year on Monday, Jan. 4.
February vacation is set for Feb. 15-19, and April vacation is from April 19-23.
The date for the WHS Class of ‘27 graduation has yet to be set.
The new school year will see some familiar faces in new positions.
Former middle school principal Brian Curley is taking on a new position as the interim assistant superintendent.
To fill the opening at the middle school, Superintendent of Schools Lisa Howard appointed Nathan Lamar as the interim principal.
Lamar was the chairperson of the special education evaluation team, which is an administrative position at the middle school. He has past experience as a principal in a charter school and as an assistant principal in Boston Public Schools.
Howard has said the district will take a look at the assistant superintendent position over the coming year to see if it will be retained in its current state or if adjustments will be made to the position. She has stated that the interim positions could become permanent.
