Robert Francis “Bob” “Bobby” “Monk” Finn died from complications of Parkinson’s disease on July 31, 2026. Life came full circle for Bobby. He was born December 14, 1947 at the old Winthrop Hospital and spent his last days in the same building, which now is the assisted living center at the Parc at Harborside. Bobby was a lifelong resident of Winthrop and communicant of St. John the Evangelist Church. He attended grammar school at St. John’s and graduated from Boston College High School in 1965. He earned a bachelor’s degree in accounting from Boston College in 1969 and then served in the U.S. Navy for almost two years, actually one year eleven months and twenty-nine days according to Bobby’s often told account. Bobby was a staff accountant at General Electric in Lynn for 30 years and then worked for the Internal Revenue Service until his retirement in 2018.
An avid sports enthusiast, Bobby was an active member of the Winthrop Golf Club and the Cottage Park Yacht Club. He was a die-hard fan of the Boston Red Sox, Boston Celtics and New England Patriots. He enjoyed Friday night with friends at the Cottage Park and occasionally enjoyed the black-jack tables and horse races. Bobby’s most treasured times were spent with his siblings and their families. He was “Uncle Bobby” to Colleen, Brenda, Tim, Danny, Suzanne, Kevin, Erin, Chris, Pat and 24 grand-nephews and nieces. He tracked and cheered their athletic, academic and career achievements with fervor and pride. He never forgot a birthday. A highlight of Bobby’s life was the family’s annual vacation on Cape Cod, since 1970 a two-week assemblage of 20-plus family members in North Falmouth. He loved to travel especially to Ireland with his lifelong friends and to England, Rome, Florence, Venice and Monaco with family.
Bobby was predeceased by his parents Bernard J. and Rita (Keough) Finn. He is survived by his siblings, Bernie “Mickey” Finn, (Marguerite Walsh) of Columbia Md. Richard P. Finn of Hartford Conn, and (Mary Finn of Chicago), and Judi Finn Acone (Greg Acone) of Bow NH. He also leaves many cherished lifelong friends and numerous extended family and family friends who will miss “Uncle Bobby.”
The funeral will be conducted from the Caggiano-O’Maley-Frazier Funeral Home, Winthrop today, Thursday, August 6, 2026 at 9 a.m. followed by a funeral mass in St. John the Evangelist Church (St. Michael’s Parish) 320 Winthrop St., Winthrop at 10 a.m. Services will conclude with military honors in the Cross Street section of Winthrop Cemetery.
