John Daros Announces Candidacy for Precinct 6

John Daros has announced his intention to seek election to Precinct 6 of the  Winthrop Town Council. The following is his announcement:

“John DaRos has announced that he will run for the Precinct 6 seat on the Winthrop Town Council being vacated by Stephen Ruggiero at the end of his term.  John has lived in the Winthrop Beach community the last five years, where he organizes the weekly beach cleanup and the weekly summer yoga series sponsored by Friends of Winthrop Beaches and Save the Harbor.  He is also a member of the Cottage Park Yacht Club, and is serving his last year on the Winthrop Board of License, responsible for the issuance of business-related licenses for Winthrop’s restaurants, car dealerships, taxi companies and other establishments.

John Daros

Raised in the small town of Waterville, Maine, John is a 1985 graduate of Waterville High School where he was President of his senior class.  He went on to graduate from the University of Maine at Orono in 1989 with a degree in Political Science, and received a Master of Science in Higher Education Administration in 1991 from Miami University in Oxford, Ohio.  He is currently pursuing an executive certificate in Sustainability Technology and Management from MIT.

John has worked in global strategic sales for the Dun & Bradstreet Corporation in the financial services sector for 20 years.  In addition, John has worked in higher education, banking, and management consulting with corporate and municipal clients.  He is a longtime volunteer and supporter of charitable organizations including the Best Buddies Foundation, the Greater Boston Area Food Bank, the Alzheimer’s Association, ASPCA and The Trevor Project.  He is also an avid runner, cyclist, wine and beer enthusiast, and a huge Bruins and college hockey fan.

“I love living in Winthrop.  I came here because of the beauty and friendliness of the town, its great restaurants and remarkable small business community.  Now, I want to put my experience helping businesses and communities to work for the benefit of my neighbors in Precinct 6 and everyone in Winthrop. I am all about listening, engaging, and surfacing ideas so that everyone has a voice and impact on the future of our community.  At the end of the day, it’s all about creating a community worthy of future generations.” said DaRos.
