Free Tea Tasting Event at Winthrop Public Library and Museum

Special to the Transcript

It’s tea season!   On Wednesday, May 11th from 6 – 7:30 p.m., Tea Oasis will present an informative introduction to loose leaf tea featuring the fresh teas of the “first plucking.” Unsure what a “first plucking” is? Come and find out during this interactive 90-minute session, which will look at what tea is, how it goes from plant pot, where it’s from, its fascinating history, health benefits, and how this simple drink has changed the world. Along the way, participants will sample numerous varieties of tea to experience what different styles are like and learn how to steep for the perfect cup. There will be plenty of time for sipping, comparing notes, and asking questions.

“Tea has a 4,000 year history,” says tea sommelier and Tea Oasis founder Hillel Bromberg. “There are thousands of types of tea and always more to learn. But at its heart, a good cup of tea is as simple as leaves in hot water. It’s an effortless but profound step from mediocre tea in bags to a superb beverage brewed from loose leaves.”

The event is free, thanks to a donation from the Friends of the library. Seating is limited.  Please call the library at 617 846-1703 to reserve a spot at the tasting.
