Recent graduate, Mark Amatucci was uncertain of what he wanted to do when he grew up, until he was hired as a summer counselor for Parks and Rec three years ago. Since then, he realized that he wanted to work with kids in some capacity, which is why he decided to major in education at the University of Massachusetts Amherst. While attending Winthrop High School, Amatucci discovered his love of running and ended up being captain of cross country, winter and spring track. With the start of college right around the corner, he is spending as much quality time with his friends and family as he can this summer.
Why did you Choose the University of Massachusetts Amherst?Â
I feel like it was the best decision for my family and me for multiple reasons, including financially. The campus is beautiful, and they have amazing food. I can see myself spending the next four years there without question.
What Activities do you Plan to Partake in While at UMass?
At UMass there are so many activities available to students, so I’m still debating on which ones I’d like to take part in. I’m considering possibly joining a fraternity and staying active through intramural sports.
Do You Have Any Big Plans This Summer?
This summer I’m a counselor at Parks and Rec, which I’ve been doing for the past three years. In fact, this job allowed me to discover that I want to work with kids when I’m older, which is why I’m studying education in college. Additionally, I’m trying to spend as much time with my family and friends before I go off to college.
