The eyes of Winthrop and the state are on Beacon Hill as the Senate and House try to reach a compromise on the casino bill and try to have it reach the Governor’s desk before the end of the legislative session on July 31.
Our state representative on Beacon Hill, Speaker Robert DeLeo, is front and center in the debate. DeLeo would like to see slot machines at the four racetracks (actually three, because Suffolk Downs and Wonderland are a combined entity and the slots would be placed at Suffolk) in addition to the construction of full-fledged casinos.
The Governor seems to be against slot machines at the racetracks, preferring casino resorts in different locations throughout the state.
We don’t know how it’s all going to turn out, but the excitement has been building for months and we expect to see it all resolved by our leaders in government in the next two weeks or so.
