James O’Neil

Retired Truck Driver

James R. O’Neill of Bradstreet Ave., Revere, died at the Massachusetts General Hospital on June 3 afer a brief illness. He was 76 years old.

Born in Winthrop, he was the beloved son of the late Cecilia (Martin) and Edward J. O’Neill. A lifetime resident of Revere, he was a self employed truck driver for many years and was also a member of the Teamster’s Local #25.

He was the beloved husband of the late Geraldine (Adamson) and the loving father of Geraldine O’Neill, Carolyn Canzano, Kathleen Straccia, all of Revere, Sean O’Neill of New York and the late James R. O’Neill Jr. and Linda Consolo; brother of Alice Cappa of Florida and is also survived by 13 grandchildren and four great grandchildren.

Shelly Gray

Worked at Logan Airport

Shelly Gray of Winthrop, formerly of Chelsea, died on June 7. She was 45 years old.

Born in Boston and raised and educated in Chelsea, she was a graduate of Chelsea High School, Class of 1982. She was an employee of the Transportation Security Authority at Boston Logan Airport and a great athlete who enjoyed sports.

She was the beloved wife of Thomas Gray, the devoted mother of Amanda Gray and Edward Gray and the loving daughter of the late Edward Rosenberg and the late Judith Rosenberg Grell. She was the dear sister of Marcy Cochran and her husband, Joe, and Barry Rosenberg and his wife, Cindy, and the loving grandmother of Jayden.

Funeral arrangements were by Torf Funeral Service, Chelsea. Burial was in Everett. Memorial observance will be held at the home of Marcy and Joe Cochran today, Thursday, from 4 to 7 p.m. and on Friday afternoon. Eleanora Y. "Nora" (DiLorenzo) Fiorino of Revere, formerly of East Boston, died on June 8.

She was the beloved wife of the late Salvatore _"Sam" Fiorino with whom she shared 32 years of marriage; loving mother of Lorraine Danieli and her husband, Daniel, and Steven Fiorino, all of Revere; dear sister of Mafalda "Muffy Dinarello" Bell and Justine Bondi, both of Revere, and the late Jennie A. DeMaria, Rachel Myer, Josephine Barletta, Mary Peretti Maniaci and Rocco and Genaro "Muzzy" DiLorenzo; fond aunt of many nieces and nephews.

Henry Ferreira

Longtime Sheraton Hotels Bartender

Henry D. Ferreira of Revere died at his home following a long illness on June 7. He was 72 years old.

Mr. Ferreira came to the United States from his native Madeira, Portugal in 1945, settling in East Boston with other family members. He came to live in Revere in 1972. He began working for Sheraton Corp. as a bartender and remained with the company for more than 43 years until retiring in 2009 due to failing health.

He leaves his wife of 40 years, Maria E. (Silva); a son, Henry J. Ferreira of Revere and his daughter, Anreia M. Sacca, an administrative assistant with East Pointe Nursing Care Center of Chelsea and her husband, Joseph Sacca of Saugus. He is the cherished grandfather of Chauntelle Ferreira of Winthrop and Dion J. Sacca of Saugus; brother of Maria Alice Moniz of Madeira, Portugal, Anna P. Gaudette and her husband, Daniel, of Tewksbury and the late Joseph M. Ferreira; brother in law of Maria V. Ferreira of Arlington, Maria I. Rodrigues and her husband, John and Maria D. DaSilva, all of Revere; the uncle of Joseph R. Ferreira and his wife, Ellen, of Winchester, Deanna M. Cook and her husband, Roy F. Cook III of Arlington and Ana P. DaSilva of Revere and Deisi DaSilva of Lowell. He is also lovingly survived by several grand nieces and grand nephews.

Family and friends are invited to attend visiting hours today, Thursday, June 10 from 4 to 8 p.m. in the Vertuccio & Smith Home for Funerals, 773 Broadway (Route 107) Revere. His Funeral will be conducted from the Funeral Home on Friday, June 11 at 10 a.m. followed by a Funeral Mass in the Immaculate Conception Church, Revere, at 11 a.m. Burial will be private. Rita Gallo

Revere Housing Authority retiree

Rita M. (Fiore) Gallo died unexpectedly at her Winthrop home on June 4. She was 85 years old.

Born and raised in Revere and a graduate of Revere High School, Class of 1943, she lived in Revere with her late husband, Patrick D. Gallo, who died in October of 2006, until they moved to Seal Harbor in Winthrop 15 years ago. Mrs. Gallo was the bookkeeper and principal clerk for the Revere Housing Authority for more than 25 years and a former member of the Revere Women’s Club.

She was the mother of Patricia G. Sproule and her husband, William, of Irvine, California, June M. Mazzoni and her husband, Robert, of Canton, MA, and John D. Gallo and his wife Suzanne, of San Jose, California; the cherished grandmother of Kathryn G., Elizabeth G. and William G. Sproule, all of Irving, California, Robert G. and Alexandra J. Mazzoni, both of Canton, MA and Michael J. and Lauren J. Gallo, both of San Jose, California; dear sister of John Fiore and his wife, Hilda M., of Revere and the late James A., Frank and John Fiore, Edytha McQuade, Florence Carbone, Anna Hopkins and Dora Sheriff; sister in law of Virginia E. Fiore of Revere and is also lovingly survived by many nieces, nephews, grand nieces and grand nephews.

Jennie A. (DiLorenzo) DeMaria of Revere, formerly of East Boston, died on June 7. She was in her 95th year.

She was the beloved wife of the late Alfred DeMaria Sr.; loving mother of Alfred De Maria MD and his wife, Dr. Susan Case of Melrose and Edward DeMaria of Winthrop; dear sister of Mafalda "Muffy Dinarello" Bell and Justine Bondi, all of Revere and the late Nora Florino, Rachel Myer, Josephine Barletta, Mary Feretti Miniaci and Rocco and Genaro "Muzzy" DiLorenzo; fond aunt of many nieces and nephews.

Her Funeral will be held from Vazza’s "Beechwood" Funeral Home, 262 Beach St., Revere, today, Thursday, at 9 a.m. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Anthony’s Church, Revere, at 10 a.m. Burial will be in Holy Cross Cemetery.

 

Arthur Sordello Sr.

Revere resident

Arthur J. Sordello Sr. of Revere died on June 5.

He was the beloved husband of 54 years of Serafina "Lena" Sordello; devoted father of Deborah Carignan of Peabody, Ralph and his fiancé, Patricia Farago, of Winthrop, Arthur J. Jr and his wife, Susan, of Topsfield, and Mario of Revere; dear brother of Felix of Revere, John of East Boston and the late Ralph, and Lena Kenney. He is also survived by four loving grandchildren, Aaron, Caroline, Kayla and Mario Jr.

Macy’s retiree

Florence L. (Caggiano) McGrath of Winthrop died at the Meadowview Nursing Home of North Reading on June 4. She was 84 years old.

A member of the Winthrop Senior Center and a former daily communicant at St John the Evangelist Church, prior to her retirement, she worked in the mailroom in the Macy’s Department Store.

She was the beloved wife of the late Joseph C. McGrath. Born in Waterbury, CT, she was the daughter of the late Thomas and Florence (DiPesa) Caggiano; devoted mother of Christine L. McGrath and her husband, Patrick J. Salony, of Gloucester, Charlotte M. Pierce and her husband, Ted, of Cape Neddick, ME, and Ellen A. Rawnsley and her husband, Bob, of Melrose; adored grandmother of Jason and Michael Salony, Aleisha Manyette, Kirsten Phillips, Caitlin and Anna-Claire Pierce, David, Kevin, and Jonathan Rawnsley; dear sister of Thomas Caggiano of Shrewsbury and the late Doris Whitten and Bernice Schudderkoff. She is also survived by three great-grandchildren and two nephews.

Former RE teacher at St. John the Evangelist Church

Ann Marie (Curran) Towlson of Winthrop died at her home on June 5. She was 74 years old.

Mrs. Towlson taught Religious Education at St. John the Evangelist Church for 12 years.

The beloved wife of Lester W. Towlson, she was born in Winthrop, the daughter of the late Bill J. and Grace E. (Ritchie) Curran. She was the devoted mother of Susan M. Towlson of Peabody and William L. Towlson of Winthrop; dear sister of Grace E. Maiolino and her husband, Peter, and Ronald Curran, both of Winthrop; adored grandmother of Jaryd W. Towlson and Brooke E. Towlson. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

John S. Cuzzo of Lynn, previously of East Boston, died on June 6. He was 67 years old.

He was the husband of Dorothy (Angell) Cuozzo; father of Vincent Lombardi of Chelsea, David Ingham of Beverly and Victoria Theriault and her husband, A.J., of Billerica; brother of Joseph Cuozzo and his wife, Ann Marie, of Winthrop; grandfather of Jake Stephen, Anthony and Alexa Theriault and is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
