A perfect ’10 – Commencement exercises set for Friday night at Miller Field

One hundred eighteen graduates of the Winthrop High School Class of 2010 will receive their diplomas at the annual commencement exercises on Friday at 7 p.m. at Miller Field.

Class Marshall Shauna Gallo will join Class President Stephen Ruggiero, Vice President Melissa Page, Secretary Kaleena Thompson, and Treasurer Lauren MacMullen, and Videographer Abigail Belcher at the helm of the traditional procession of graduates on the field.

Ruggiero will deliver the valedictory address while MacMullen will present the salutatory address during the program.

Superintendent of Winthrop Schools Dr. Steve Jenkins and Principal Gail Conlon will make formal speeches to the graduates, their families, the school administration and faculty, and the many guests who will attend the ceremony.

Speaker of the Massachusetts House of Representatives Robert DeLeo, Senator Anthony Petruccelli, and Town Council President Jeffrey Turco are invited guests. Turco will bring the official greetings of Winthrop residents and offer his congratulations to the graduates.

School Committee Chairwoman Patricia Milano will have the honor of awarding the diplomas to the graduates. In what will be a distinct honor, Mrs. Milano will be presenting a diploma to her son, Will, who is a member of the Class of 2010.

Scholarship Coordinator Annette Bertino said that $40,000 in scholarships will be presented to the graduates. Approximately $53,000 in scholarships were presented to graduates at the Class Night Awards program Wednesday night at the school.

There will be a reception inside the school cafeteria following the commencement ceremony.

In the event of inclement weather, the commencement ceremony will be moved indoors to the high school gymnasium.
