Winthrop Cares Fundraiser For Displace Fire Victims

Winthrop Cares held a fundraiser at the Pleasant Park Yacht Club for four families who were displaced by a fire on River Road in June, 2026.

“Fifteen years ago, our house was struck by lightning during a storm, and we said, ‘this is a chance to give back what was given to us,” said John Floyd, a main organizer of the event with his wife, Roberta Floyd, and Brenda Kowalczuk.

Floyd added, “It’s more than just the monetary donations, it’s the support that the Town of Winthrop is giving to these families.”

Floyd thanked the PPYC Commodore Sean Watson and three Platinum Sponsors, Mike Eruzione and Donna Eruzione of Winthrop Charities, Saint John the Evangelist Church, and the Oddfellows Lodge.

Also playing a key role in the success of the event were Tom and Margaret Larity, who were celebrating their 46th anniversary by cooking at the barbecue grill, along with former CHS football star Dom LaMarra.
