Out of more than 3,000 applicants from around the globe, WHS Senior Class President Safiatou “Safi” Barry was chosen as one of only 190 students to participate in the prestigious, all-expenses-paid Notre Dame Leadership Seminar.
Selected for the 10-day course “Global Issues: Violence & Peace in the Modern Age”—one of six seminars offered—Safi spent her time studying conflict transformation, examining the impact of modern warfare on society, and engaging with peacebuilding professionals from organizations large and small.
To round out the experience, Safi and her classmates traveled to Chicago, Illinois, where they visited Precious Blood Ministry, a restorative justice nonprofit organization. She also collaborated with her team on a capstone project focused on the international complexities of enforcing refugee and asylum law.
Outside the classroom, Safi built strong friendships with ambitious peers from diverse backgrounds. She expressed deep gratitude for the opportunity to learn from engaging professors alongside such talented young leaders. The experience solidified her vision for the future, inspiring her to pursue a career in International Policy Analysis.
