Whether you’ve been a member of Cottage Park Yacht Club (CPYC) for years or have always been curious about what goes on behind those doors, Saturday, June 27 offers a special opportunity to experience one of Winthrop’s most cherished waterfront traditions while celebrating the strength and resilience of the CPYC community.
This year’s Summer Open House comes at a particularly meaningful time. Following the devastating fire that struck the marina earlier this season, Cottage Park Yacht Club is bringing together current members, prospective members, friends, neighbors, and supporters from across Winthrop and Greater Boston to celebrate the club’s ongoing recovery and the extraordinary outpouring of support it received during a challenging period. The CPYC community is firmly on the road to recovery and looks forward to welcoming everyone who reached out, lent a hand, or offered words of encouragement as the club rebuilds and looks ahead to a bright future.
CPYC is hosting its Summer Open House from 1 to 4 p.m., welcoming both existing members and future prospective members to come together, mix and mingle, and discover everything the club has to offer. The event provides a relaxed and welcoming atmosphere for anyone interested in learning more about membership and becoming part of the CPYC family.
Guests will have the opportunity to tour the club, meet members, and learn about the many social, recreational, and boating activities available throughout the year. From bowling leagues and pool and darts nights to a robust entertainment calendar that keeps things lively year-round, there’s something for just about everyone. The club is also proud of its strong culture of volunteerism, giving members a chance to give back while building lasting friendships. And of course, the Pilot House restaurant continues to be a favorite destination for great food and waterfront views.
For those drawn to life on the water, CPYC offers a wealth of opportunities regardless of whether you own a boat. The club’s popular Nautical Nights program pairs boat-owning members with non-boat-owning members, creating a wonderful way to forge new friendships while enjoying Boston Harbor. Members also have access to the club’s boat loan program, making it easier than ever to get out on a paddleboard or kayak. For those looking to build their skills, the adult learn-to-sail program offers a welcoming path onto the water, while the club’s well-established youth sailing program has introduced generations of young Winthrop residents to the joy of sailing.
Immediately following the Open House, CPYC will continue one of its most cherished traditions: the annual Blessing of the Fleet. The celebration begins at 4 p.m. with Mass in Westerly Hall, followed by the Blessing of the Fleet and the parade of vessels. The day’s festivities will conclude with a cookout on the Head Pier, offering members and guests an opportunity to gather together and celebrate the start of another summer boating season.
