John Anthony Vitagliano Sr., 83, passed away peacefully on June 7, 2026, surrounded by the love of his family.
Born on June 16, 1942, to Alphonso and Mary (Catenacci) Vitagliano, John lived a life defined by dedication, hard work, and devotion to those he loved most. He took great pride in the lives and accomplishments of his children and grandchildren and cherished every opportunity to bring his family together.
John was the beloved father of John Vitagliano Jr., Danielle Vitagliano, Alicia and Kevin Wilson, and Michael Vitagliano. He was a proud and loving grandfather to Dustin Vitagliano and his fiancée, Tyler Coggeshall and Calvin Wilson, all of whom brought him immeasurable joy.
He is also survived by his loving siblings, Suzanne DelVecchio (the late Cyrus), Alphonse Vitagliano (the late Lorraine), and Francis Vitagliano and his wife, Halayna, as well as many nieces, nephews, extended family members and friends who will forever treasure his memory.
Throughout his career, John devoted himself to the transportation industry, where his work contributed to some of Massachusetts’ most transformative infrastructure efforts. He was proud to be involved in projects associated with Logan Airport, Massport, and the transportation improvements that helped shape modern Boston, including the era of the historic Big Dig project. These landmark initiatives improved mobility, enhanced access to Logan Airport, and transformed the region’s transportation network for generations to come.
Beyond his professional accomplishments, John found his greatest happiness with family. He especially loved vacations to New Hampshire, where countless memories were made with children, grandchildren, relatives, and friends. Whether gathered around a table, enjoying the beauty of the lake, or simply spending time together, those moments brought him tremendous joy.
John also had a deep interest in local politics and community affairs. He enjoyed following current events, discussing issues that affected his community, and staying engaged with the world around him. He was a man who cared deeply about the future and believed in the importance of civic involvement.
Those who knew John will remember his strong work ethic, his commitment to family, his sharp opinions, and his unwavering loyalty to the people he loved. His legacy lives on in the family he cherished, the friendships he cultivated, and the lasting contributions he made through a lifetime of service and dedication.
He will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
The funeral mass was celebrated in St. John the Evangelist Church on Wednesday, June 17, 2026. Services concluded with the interment in St. Michael’s Cemetery, Boston.
