Special to the Transcript
My name is Kurt Millar, and I’m proud to announce my candidacy for Winthrop Councilor At- Large.
As a lifelong Winthrop resident, proud father of two, graduate of our public schools, and member of a multi-generational family of local business owners and engaged citizens, I’m deeply committed to the future of our town. I’ve spent years listening, showing up, and serving because I believe leadership begins with community involvement.
Over the years, I have established a history of supporting Winthrop and its citizens by donating my time, services, and financial contributions to town-wide events, local charities, and fundraisers for those in need. Doing so has given me invaluable insight into how giving and supportive Winthrop residents can be towards one another. I take pride in helping when and where I am able.
I’ve had the honor of serving Winthrop on three Charter and Ordinance Review Committees, where I reviewed and recommended updates to our town’s Charter and ordinances, helping shape how our form of government, laws, and local rules work in practice. I currently serve on the Board of License, my second term, where we work to grant licenses to both new and existing businesses. In addition, I regularly attend Town Council and committee meetings to stay informed and engaged. These experiences have given me a strong working knowledge of local government and a deep understanding of the challenges and priorities facing our community.
Professionally, I’ve worked at Gillette in South Boston for over 18 years, where I currently serve as a multi-site leader, managing budgets exceeding $12 million. I am a servant leader with a team of talented and diverse coworkers. My experience includes roles in health, safety, and environment leadership, preventative maintenance on machines and buildings, professional development, and inventory logistics management. This work has reinforced my skills in finance, sustainability, OSHA compliance, cost-saving strategies, and employee development.
As your Councilor At-Large, I will bring thoughtful, balanced leadership to the issues that matter most: ensuring fiscal responsibility, advancing environmental resilience, strengthening our schools, supporting local businesses, improving infrastructure, and implementing ways to make our government communications more accessible and transparent. I will be a strong advocate for responsible growth that preserves Winthrop’s unique charm while building a sustainable future.
Every voice is important to me, and I want to work with you across every precinct. I will lead with transparency, collaboration, and integrity.
I look forward to earning your trust, your vote, and the opportunity to serve as your Councilor At- Large.
