Remembering John Domenico
Dear Editor,
Many Winthrop residents were saddened to hear that former Winthrop High School principal John Domenico passed away earlier this month.
Mr. Domenico was a very popular figure in our community for many years, a highly respected educator and administrator, baseball and tennis coach, and active member of the town.
He was a wonderful gentleman who had an impact on many individuals in their formative years and later on in their lives.
Last year, the tennis courts at Ingleside Park were dedicated to John Domenico.
Mr. Domenico served his country in the U. S. Navy, his community as a Town Meeting member, and was involved in many local organizations.
He was a member and Exalted Ruler of the Winthrop Lodge of Elks, member and President of the Winthrop Rotary Club, member of the Winthrop Knights of Columbus, and Recording Secretary of the Winthrop Savings Bank.
John Domenico was chosen as the Winthrop Jaycee’s Man of the Year in 1978 and was inducted into the WHS Athletic Hall of Fame in 1996.
I had the pleasure of knowing Mr. Domenico for more than sixty years as a tennis coach, vice principal, mentor and friend.
He was one of the finest individuals that I have ever met.
