On Saturday, March 29, Ella Spagnoli, a sophomore at Winthrop Public High School, hosted a stand-out to “Protect Education” and bring awareness to the town’s April 5th special election where critical funding to Winthrop’s public schools will be voted on. Ella was joined by current Winthrop Public School (WPS) teachers and education support professionals (ESPs), fellow WPS students, former town councilor Peter Gill, GFB PTO board members Rita Mansfield and Cassie Witthaus and additional community supporters.
“I planned this standout because funding our local school district is very important to all the grades in our school system. Cutting teachers and enlarging class size would not be in any of the students’ best interests. As a high school student, I am concerned about the future of extracurriculars, sports and the availability of AP classes,” said Ella Spagnoli, sophomore at Winthrop High School.
Ella Spagnoli is a sophomore at Winthrop High School, a member of the Lady Vikings tennis team and an active member of the drama society. She has also written for the student-run newspaper, the Viking Times. Biology is Ella’s favorite subject, and she plans on pursuing a career in astrobiology.
