While the Democratic ballot in last week’s state primary featured at least one candidate for every race on the ballot, the Republican ballot only had two races with candidates.
John Deaton, who won a three-way race against John Antonellis and Ian Cain, will face incumbent Democratic Senator Elizabeth Warren in November.
Deaton is a U.S. Marine veteran and trial lawyer who grew up in Highland Park, Michigan. Deaton was the first member of his family to graduate from college and later graduated from Eastern Michigan University before attending the New England School of Law.
In 1994, Deaton was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant. He was assigned as a Judge Advocate at Marine Corps Air Station, Yuma, Arizona where he served first as Marine Senior Defense Counsel and then as Chief Prosecutor. Deaton also served as a Special Assistant United States Attorney for the District of Arizona.
Deaton has positioned himself as a more moderate candidate in comparison to Warren, promising to fix inflation and the migrant crisis.
Jeanna Tamas picked up 462 votes running for the Republican nomination for state senate. She will face incumbent Democrat Lydia Edwards in November in the 3rd Suffolk District race.
Tamas has said that she decided to run for the Senate because she believes the current elected officials have lost touch with the electorate, especially on local issues. She said elected officials have lost touch with the electorate, and it is especially evident on local issues and that she wants to represent and fight for the issues that are important to this District.
In Winthrop, Tamas has said the MBTA 3A Communities Act would overburden the community.
