Rosalie Ehrenwald

Of Winthrop, formerly of the West End of Boston

Rosalie Ehrenwald of Winthrop died peacefully on May 3 at the age of 100.

Rosalie was predeceased by her beloved husband, Irving with whom she shared 68 beautiful years.

Born and raised in the West End neighborhood of Boston to her parents, Louis and Dora Schwartz, she would tell her family many stories of growing up and visiting the West End Museum several times and was interviewed a few years ago to share stories about her life in this neighborhood.

For over 70 years, Rosalie lived in the same house in Winthrop across from the Winthrop Yacht Club, watching the boats every summer and enjoying the music from the Saturday night parties.

Rosalie loved being in the kitchen cooking and baking. Her family enjoyed delicious meals and many pastries she made including mandel bread, marble cake and strudel. She made delicious soups and her family loved the chicken soup the most.

Rosalie leaves her daughter, Vivian Kruger and her husband, Jack, her daughter, Sharon Scobert and her son, Jeff Ehrenwald and his wife, Seri, as well as many grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Rosalie was predeceased by two beloved foster sons, Ben Gordon and Michael Gordon.

A funeral service for Rosalie was held on May 6 at the Torf Funeral Chapel in Chelsea. Interment followed at the Chebra Kadisha of Chelsea Cemetery in Everett.

In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be made in Rosalie’s memory to St. Jude’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.

Theresa Cronin

Retired Registered Nurse

Theresa J. “Terri” Cronin, retired registered nurse (R.N.) of Winthrop, died on May 7.

A member of the Winthrop Council on Aging, she was a past parishioner, Eucharistic Minister and Parish Council Secretary of the Sacred Heart Church of East Boston.

Always known as “Terri,” she was a native of Norristown, PA and a graduate of the Montgomery Hospital School of Nursing in Norristown in 1951. She relocated to Massachusetts in 1954 to accept a position as an operating room nurse (Baker OR) at the Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston. During her 47-year career as a registered nurse, she worked as an operating room, obstetrics and medical-surgical nurse at various Greater Boston hospitals including Massachusetts General, Somerville Hospital, Winthrop Hospital and Lahey Clinic/Burlington. She was a long-time nursing supervisor at the Lawrence Memorial Hospital of Medford.

Terri was an active sports participant in basketball and lettered in field hockey at Norristown High School (Class of 1948), and was an enthusiastic follower of the New England Patriots and Boston Red Sox. She was a long-time devoted donor to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital and eagerly awaited her monthly mailing to add new faces to her prayers for their recovery. Her greatest joy was visiting and keeping up with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Born in Norristown, PA., the daughter of the late John Picard and the late Josephine (Perpetua) Picard of Norristown, she was the mother of Catherine (late husband Michael) of Wakefield, John of Litchfield, NH, Maureen and Aileen and the late Terrence P. Cronin; sister of Evelyn Melchiorre of East Norriton, PA and Kathryn Friedman of Philadelphia, PA; loving grandmother of Alicia (Cronin) Pearsons and her husband, Bradd of Stratham, NH, Cameron of Brooklyn, NY, Christine (Cronin) Gorveatt and her husband, Joshua of Londonderry, NH and Sean of Litchfield, NH; beloved great-grandmother of Rocco and Charlotte Gorveatt and Connor Pearsons. She is also survived by nephews: Don Melchoirre and his wife, Patty of Brigantine NJ and their son, Michael and his wife, Amanda; Dean Melchiorre and his wife, Terry of Collegeville, PA and their son, John; nieces Kathryn Schilling of Loomis, CA and Lynn Deans of San Ramon, CA and their children and also survived by grandchildren, Samantha Barnard (and daughter Miriah) and Edmund and James Fino.

Terri asked that those who attend her services wear bright colors to celebrate her many years of nursing service.

Family and friends are cordially invited to attend the visitation from the Caggiano-O’Maley-Frazier Funeral Home, Winthrop on Wednesday, May 18 from 4 to 8 p.m. The funeral will be conducted from the funeral home on Thursday, May 19 at 9 a.m. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at the Sacred Heart Church, 45 Brooks Street, East Boston at 10 a.m. (www.sacredhearteb.org) Services will conclude with interment in the Oak Grove Cemetery, Medford.
