Saugus High Sports Complex Named in Honor of Christie Serino

When Winthrop High School plays Saugus High School in sports this fall, you’ll be walking in the Christie Serino Athletic Complex.

Mr. Serino, a legendary hockey coach, was the father of Winthrop High School director of athletics Matt Serino.

“It’s a huge honor and obviously it speaks words of what my dad meant to so many in that town,” said Matt. “So I’m beyond grateful that the Town Meeting members unanimously voted it in –  it was an awesome day for our family.”

Matt was an outstanding ice hockey player at Saugus High, leading the Sachems to the Division 2 state championship in 2004. Matt is an inductee in the Saugus High School Hall of Fame as are his father, Christie Serino, his uncle, Frank Serino, and his wife, Sabrina Cataldo Serino. Matt and his wife, Sabrina, were inducted in the same class.

The Christie Serino Athletic Complex is situated adjacent to the new Saugus Middle-High School and consists of a football stadium and outdoor track. The high school graduation will be held at the stadium, but athletic teams will not compete on the field until the 2021 fall season.
