Youth Learn Proper Exercise Techniques at Miller Field

If you happen to drive by the Miller Field track on Friday mornings at 7 a.m. this summer, you will see a group of dedicated youngsters lunging, stretching, and running their way to fitness. As part of the youth summer program run by RPM Fitness, the 40-minute class is designed for kids ages 10 to 15, from beginner to advanced athletes.

“It’s important for kids this age to know how to lift weights and execute strength training moves using proper form, so they don’t get injured,” said Phil Lundberg, coach and trainer at RPM Fitness.

After the strength training class on the track, the athletes make their way over to RPM Fitness where they are led in a deep stretch class by a certified yoga instructor.

“It’s nice to see kids out here and moving on this beautiful track,” said Ellen McGrath, a member of the senior center who is responsible for opening and closing the track for public access. The track is open to the public Monday through Friday, 5  to 8 a.m. and 6  to 8 p.m..
