State Police have recovered what they believe to be the body of a missing 72-year-old man from Saugus.

The body washed ashore on Short Beach on the line between Revere and Winthrop Wednesday morning. Local and state police responded to the scene.

State Police Spokesman David Procopio said they were searching the area after the Winthrop harbormaster found the kayak around 10:35 a.m. It was washed up against the seawall. A trooper walking along the rocky shore observed the body in the water. The body was recovered in rough surf by the Coast Guard. There was a flotation device near the body.

The man, identified as Craig Dustin. is believed to have been fishing from his kayak from the Saugus River on Tuesday.

The body was taken to the medical examiners office for an autopsy.
