Although it has been more than 40 years since John Ligotti served as the Clerk Magistrate of the East Boston District Court, there are many residents of this area who still recall a man who helped so many individuals and families during a period in their lives when they were in crisis.
As a Clerk-Magistrate, John Ligotti always treated with dignity and respect those who came before the court. His many years of outstanding service were rewarded when he was named a judge of the Malden District Court by Governor Francis W. Sargent in 1974 (who then appointed Winthrop resident Joe Faretra, who still serves currently as the East Boston Clerk Magistrate).
Judge Ligotti continued to serve the judiciary for the next 12 years until his retirement at the age of 70 in 1986.
We know we join with many long-time residents whose lives were touched by John Ligotti in wishing this courtly, kind, and dignified man a “Happy 100th Birthday,†a milestone that he reached this week.
