Member of Winthrop Elks and Auxiliary Member of Winthrop AMVETS

Eileen C. (Murray) Barbuto of Winthrop passed away on November 20. She was 69 years old. Eileen was a member of the Winthrop Lodge of Elks #1078 and was an Auxiliary member of the Winthrop AMVETS Post 48. The beloved wife of Thomas B. Barbuto, she was born in Winthrop, the daughter of the late Roger and Mary (Wiffen) Murray. She was the devoted mother of Michael Guerra and his wife, Famiko of Japan, Lisa Guerra of Winthrop, Danielle Marshall and her husband, Shaun of Las Vegas, Michele Barbuto of Medford and the late Joseph Guerra; dear sister of William Murray of Florida, Paul Murray of Texas, Anna Ripley of Winthrop, Carol Murray of New Hampshire and the late Jimmy Murray, Roderick Murray, Rita Baladi, John Murray, and Mary Lima; adored grandmother of 14 and great-grandmother of six and is also survived by many nieces and nephews. Funeral arrangements were by the Maurice W. Kirby Funeral Home, Winthrop. Interment was in Winthrop Cemetery (Belle Isle Section). Georgia J. (Stratigakis) Condakes of Winthrop passed away at home on November 20. She was 79 years old. The beloved wife of the late John N. Condakes, prior to her retirement, Georgia worked as a cashier for the Fotomat Co. She was born in Sparta, Greece, the beloved daughter of the late Arestidis and Athina (Papanicholao) Stratigakis; devoted mother of Nicholas J. Condakes of Winthrop, Michael J. Condakes and his wife, Madelan of Dedham, and Panos J. Condakes and his wife, Constantina of Saugus; adored grandmother of John M., Fotios M., John P., and Georgia C. Condakes; dear sister of Sophia and Pota of Greece, and the late Leonidas Stratigakis and is also survived by many nieces, nephews, brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law. Thomas O’Brien, Jr.

Retired Telephone Company Manager

Thomas L. O’Brien, Jr. of Winthrop passed away suddenly at home on November 20. He was 84 years old. Tom served in the U.S. Navy with the rank of Lieutenant during the Korean War. Prior to his retirement, he was as a Manager for the telephone company. Born in Boston, the beloved son of the late Thomas L. Sr. and Mary (McDonald) O’Brien, he was the dear brother of the late Donald and Paul O’Brien and is also survived by several cousins. Funeral arrangements were by the Maurice W. Anne Umana

Pianist/Musician and Wife of Late Legislator and Municipal Court Judge Mario Umana

Anne T. (Nigro) Umana of Orient Heights East Boston died on November 17. Anne was an accomplished pianist with her own radio program on WMEX called Keys to Pleasure and performed at many fashion shows, restaurants and at the Harvard Club until age 70. She attended N.E. Conservatory of Music. She was the beloved and devoted wife of the late Honorable Judge Mario Umana Boston Municipal Court and MA Senate Majority Leader with whom she shared 58 years of marriage; loving mother of Anne Scigliano and her husband, Ned of Walpole and Jeanne Umana Kilpatrick of Lake Gregory, CA and her late husband Reid; cherished grandmother of Marcus Aurelius Scigliano and his wife, Lauren and Alexander Michael Scigliano; great grandmother of Francesco and dear sister of the late Dr. Michael Nigro, Finetta Craig and Dante Nigro.
