Children

Ski and Snowboard Program – 5 week program at Nashoba Valley in Westford MA. Program runs on Wednesdays beginning January 2, 2013 and bus departs at 2:30pm from rear of Winthrop Middle School and returns approximately 6:45pm. Rentals and classes available at all levels.  Lift ticket only $199.00, Lift ticket & lesson $219.00, Lift ticket and rental $269, Lift ticket, lesson & rental $289.00. Open to Children in grades 3 & up without parent, children in grades 1 & 2 are welcome with chaperone each week.

Basketball – Saturday Mornings Grades K-4    This 8 week program begins on Saturday January 12th at the Cummings School gymnasium and the cost is $95.00.

Boys in Grades K-1 play 9:00am – 10:15am, Girls in Grades K-1 play from

10:15am – 11:30am and Boys and Girls Grades 2-4 play from 12:00pm-1:15pm. Program does not run during February vacation, Saturday February 16th & February 23rd.

Winthrop Youth Lacrosse – The Winthrop Youth Lacrosse Program will be joining the Mass Bay Youth Lacrosse League.  The MBYLL promotes leadership, guidance, training and structure. League is for girls and boys from 7 – 15 years of age. Registration is $150.00 per player and registration is required by December 31st in order for Winthrop to participate in the Mass Bay League. Floor Hockey – Grades 3-5   Program will include basic instruction and teams will be formed for some fun competition.  Children meet in the Cummings school gymnasium on Thursdays beginning January 17th from 2:30pm – 3:30pm for 6 weeks. Cost is $50.00.

Mad Science:There’s Science Everywhere! presented by Mad Science of Greater Boston. Enjoy hands on activities and take home projects. Explore animal-bugs; investigate powerful processes that shape the Earth and form rocks, minerals and gems; tryout simple machines, discover how hurricanes, tornadoes and thunderstorms develop. Learn about movie special effects and life under the sea. Grades K-2 will be offered on Fridays from 2:10pm – 3:10pm at the Fort Banks School beginning January 18th. Each session runs for 6 weeks & the cost is $99.00.  Limited space so register in advance.

Guitar Lessons for Beginners (Grades 3-6) Want to learn how to play guitar, but don’t know where to begin? In 8 weeks we’ll get started with basic chords, basic theory and establishment of good playing habits.  Classes to be held at EB Newton

School/Winthrop Cultural Center 1st floor from 2:30pm – 3:30p beginning Wednesday, February 6th.  Cost is $40.00.  There will be a follow up class in the spring for those who participated in this beginner class.

After school program -  Grades K –6 enjoy this fun program located at the Recreation Center in the rear of the middle school.  Transportation provided from the Fort Banks and Cummings school. Available for after school, half days and vacation days.   Call for New early pickup rates!! Also offering escort service to local activities such as CCD, karate, gymnastics, etc. for an additional fee. Call 617 846-9285.

Adults

New – Guitar Lessons   Playing guitar can be fun at all ages. We’ll get you started with basic chords, basic theory and establishment of good playing habits. Classes on Tuesday evenings for 6 weeks beginning January 15th from 7:00pm – 8:30pm at the E.B.Newton

School/Cultural Center 1st floor. Cost is $50.00.

Foxwoods Casino – Sunday, January 20th (Martin Luther King Day weekend) Depart Cummings school half circle by motor coach at 8am and return at 8pm. Enjoy gaming, fine & casual dining & great shopping. $25 per person ($10 food coupon, $10 free play).

Learn Spanish – with Winthrop High School Spanish Instructor, Mike Nickerson. Class is on Monday evenings beginning January 28 from 7:00pm – 8:30pm for 6weeks at Winthrop High School.  Cost is $75.00.

Heart saver – CPR courses – Certification class offered on Saturday, October 26th 9:00am – 1:00pm or Tuesday, March 5th 6:00pm –10:00pm. Class takes place at the Recreation Center in the rear of the middle school. No written test.  Enter through rear parking lot.  Cost is $65.00 and your Certification card will be mailed to you.

Dog Training –  At the Winthrop Senior Center, 35 Harvard St.  Teach your dog polite manners and basic obedience using dog friendly positive reinforcement clicker training.  Classes begin on Thursday, January 17th and run for 7 weeks. Beginner Class from 6:30pm -7:30pm and Intermediate class (for graduates of beginner program) is from 7:45pm – 8:45pm.   Cost is $125.00. Computer Class – Introduction to Microsoft Excel  – This class is a beginner introduction to Microsoft Excel’s spreadsheet program.  Class is on Thursday evenings at the Winthrop High School Computer Lab beginning January 24th for 6 weeks. Class time is 7:00pm – 8:30pm and cost is $80.00.
