Public Works Director has an Offer to Leave Town

Winthrop Public Works Director David Hickey has been offered a job as public works director for another community, at a significant pay increase and could accept the position as early as next week.

When contacted, Hickey declined to elaborate, but did say that he has not yet tendered his resignation to the town. He declined to name the other community.

“All I can say is that I did receive an offer that had some conditions and the process is on-going,” said Hickey. “I have not resigned my job here, so really this is all a bit premature. When there is something more to report, I will discuss it at that time.”

Hickey who has been the public works director in Winthrop for the past eight years was approached by the other community and was not actively searching for a new job. According to a source with knowledge of the situation, Town Manager James McKenna was contacted earlier this week, as a reference for Hickey.
