Inside Knowledge: John Macero knows Winthrop and the Problems Facing Our Schools

Congratulations are in order for John Macero, the newly elected Winthrop Superintendent of Schools. Macero is a long-time Winthrop resident who is a former member of the Winthrop School Committee and has served as principal of the Whelan elementary school in Revere.

John certainly knows the town as well as anybody and has been able to observe first-hand the strengths and weaknesses of the Winthrop school system and what needs to be done to restore it to greatness from top to bottom. Winthrop’s schools face a great challenge in the years ahead in this time of fiscal austerity at all levels of government. The reality is that our schools  will have to do more with less. John Macero is a professional educator whom we trust will have the ability and dedication to guide us through these difficult times.
