John Sweeney, 95
Member of many organizations, past Winthrop Advisory Board member
John V. "Jack" Sweeney of Winthrop died at his home on June 26. He was 95 years old.
A U.S. Marine Corps veteran of World War II, he was a member of the Cottage Park Yacht Club, Winthrop Golf Club, Knights of Columbus 162, and a past member of the Winthrop Advisory Board. Prior to his retirement, he worked as a manufacturing sales representative for various furniture manufacturers throughout New England.
Born in Jersey City, NJ, he was the son of the late Michael and Catherine (Boyle) Sweeney; beloved husband of Veronica A. (Murphy) Sweeney; devoted father of Shelley Connolly and her husband, Thomas, Jill McIlroy and her dear friend, Philip Moody, all of Winthrop, and the late Michael Sweeney; adored grandfather of Tucker and Corey Connolly and Caitlin and Dioan McIlroy; cherished great-grandfather of Cambria McIlroy and Brandon Martinez and is also survived by several nieces and nephews.

Murlene Marchesi

Murlene Marchesi of East Boston died on June 24.
She was the beloved wife of the late William A.; devoted mother of Tammi Moreno, Domenic "DoDo" Marchesi and his wife, Camille, all of East Boston; dear sister of Joseph Dunbar, Gloria Santiniello, Jewel Francis, Patty Viola, Paulene Sabella and the late June Bartolo and Gladys Dowe; cherished grandmother of Nicholas William Marchesi and great grandmother of Gio Marchesi. She is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews, and grandma to many.

Paul Nugent
Retired City of Boston Transportation Supervisor
Paul F. Nugent of Lynnfield died on June 24. He was 64 years old.
Born in Winthrop on January 4, 1946 he was the son of the late Mansell J. and Celia L. (Crowell) Nugent. Mr. Nugent was a graduate of East Boston High School, Class of 1965. He was a retired Transportation Supervisor for the City of Boston. After his retirement, he was a crossing guard for the Town of Lynnfield. Mr. Nugent served in the United States Coast Guard, was a member of the Reading K of C and the Emerald Police Society. He was a collector of police memorabilia and was proud of his dual citizenship with the United States and Ireland. He was a member of the Our Lady of the Assumption Church in Lynnfield.
He was the husband of Susan M. (Pezzatta) Nugent; brother of Arthur Nugent and his wife, Daisy, of Beverly, James Nugent and wife, Virginia, of Concord, Robert Nugent and wife, Stacy, of Lynnfield and Brenda Nugent of Winthrop; godfather of Katie Nugent and is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
Funeral arrangements were by the McDonald Funeral Home, Wakefield. Burial was at Forest Hill Cemetery, Lynnfield. Agnes Mahoney
Former Winthrop School Teacher
Agnes P. Mahoney of Tewksbury, formerly of Winthrop and Westwood, died on June 23.
A retired Winthrop and Natick school teacher, she was the daughter of the late Charles F. Mahoney, M.D. and the late Agnes (Driscoll) Mahoney; sister of Miriam M. Wynn of Tewksbury, Marguerite "Peg" Donegan of Lakewood, CO and the late Charles F. Mahoney, Jr. and Paul R. Mahoney. She leaves many nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grand nephews.
