J. Edmund Collins

Member of Cottage Park Yacht Club

J. Edmund Collins died in Winthrop on September 29.

A member of the Cottage Park Yacht Club, he was the beloved son of the late J. Edmund Collins and Josephine (McDonald) Collins; former husband of Mary Jane (Flynn) McDonald; devoted father of Bridget Collins of Maui, HI, and J. Edmund "Jay" Collins of Winthrop and brother of Eileen Nicewicz and her husband, Frank Nicewicz, of Winthrop.

His Funeral will be held from the O’Maley Funeral Home, 79 Atlantic St., Winthrop on Friday at 9 a.m. followed by a Funeral Mass in the Church of St. John the Evangelist at 10 a.m. Relatives and friends are invited. Joan LeBlanc, 60

Legal Secretary

Joan (Thomson) LeBlanc of Winthrop died suddenly on September 28 at the Beth Israel Hospital in a way in which she lived her life, with a fiery and wonderful spirit. She was 60 years old.

She loved sailing, the Patriots, the Red Sox and travelling. She worked as a legal secretary for Palmer and Dodge Law Firm.

Born in Belfast Ireland, she was the daughter of the late William and Olive (Agnew) Thomson; the beloved partner and friend of Kevin Conville; devoted mother of Alyssa Hansen and her husband, John, of Rutland, MA and adored grandmother of Delaney and Brenna Hansen. She will be dearly missed by her beloved dogs, Amelia and Charlie.

Lawrence Racow, 76

Worcester resident

Lawrence Racow of Worcester died September 27. He was 76 years old.

He was the loving husband of the late Sylvia (Cotton) Racow; beloved father of Scott Racow and his wife, Cathy, of Corinne, ME and Steve Racow and his wife, Judy, of Winthrop; cherished grandfather of Michael, Devin, Elisa, Alex and Eric and beloved brother of Burton Racow of Florida.

Mary Barker, 67

Winthrop resident

Mary E. (Hunter) Barker of Winthrop died at home on September 23. She was 67 years old.

Born in Boston, the daughter of the late William and Dorothy (MacDonald) Hunter, she was the beloved wife of Burnham "Skip" Barker; devoted mother of Debbie Paulson and her husband, Mark, Jan Mackay and her husband, Robert, Julie Gillis and her husband, John, and James Barker and his wife, Cheryl, all of Winthrop; dear sister of Daniel Hunter of Florida, William Hunter of Mississippi, David Hunter of East Boston, and the late John and Leo Hunter. She was the adored grandmother of 11 and is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

Virginia ‘Dana’ Meiggs

Of Florida, formerly of Winthrop

Virginia C. "Dana" (Vecchio) Meiggs, a lifelong resident of Winthrop, died on September 24 in Clermont, Florida.

She is survived by her husband of 60 years, John Meiggs; daughters, Gail and Robin, and son, John, Jr. as well as her sister, Barbara Butler, of Clermont, Florida. She was the mother of the late Richard Meiggs. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Gina Meiggs, Stephan and Ryan Gaudette, Richie and Ray Meiggs, Heidi and Aaron Meiggs and three great grandchildren.

 

Hannal Kaplan, 82

Of Florida, formerly of Winthrop

Hannal Kaplan of Delray Beach, Florida, formerly of Winthrop, died on September 24. He was 82 years old.

He is survived by his loving wife of 46 years, Rosalyn, and his daughter, Ellen Kaplan, and her husband, Trevor Leitch, of San Mateo, CA. He was the son of the late Hyman and Rose Kaplan and the brother of the late Elliot Kaplan and his late wife, Cecile Kaplan. He is also survived by four nieces and a nephew.

Burial was at Eternal Light Memorial Park in Boynton Beach, Florida. Donations in his memory may be made to Temple B’nai Israel, 1 Wave Avenue, Revere, MA 02151; or to Hospice by the Sea, 1531 W. Palmetto Park Road, Boca Raton, FL 33486.

 

Diane Amoroso

East Boston resident

Diane C. (Cavalieri) Amoroso of East Boston died on September 24.

The devoted mother of Angela Amoroso of East Boston, Krissi LoConte and her husband, Anthony, of Saugus, she was the dear sister of the late Janice and Lawrence Cavalieri; cherished grandmother of Steven McDonough, Angelisa Pisaturo, Mia and Noelle LoConte and is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews.

William Capone Jr., 48

Longtime operator of Goody’s Catering of East Boston

William D. "Billy" Capone Jr. of Winthrop, formerly of East Boston, died on September 23 after a long and courageous battle with Multiple Myloma. He was 48 years old.

Mr. Capone operated Goody’s Catering in East Boston for many years after his father William "Goody" passed away.

He was the beloved husband of Elsie (Selvitella) Capone; devoted father of Jenna Capone of Sandown, New Hampshire, Christopher, Matthew and Daniel Capone, all at home; loving son of Tina (Ciano) Capone and the late William "Goody" Capone; cherished brother of Diane Magnasco, Joan Ferrara and Karen Moore, all of East Boston; dear son-in-law of Marlene Pennellatore and is also survived by many fond aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and friends.

Funeral arrangements were by the Ruggiero Mazzarella Memorial Home (Orient Heights) East Boston. He was laid to rest with his Dad in Woodlawn Cemetery.
