Police Blotter 07-27-2023

The following incident reports are among the calls to which the Winthrop Police Department responded on the listed dates. The log is a public record and available for review. All persons who are arrested or charged with a crime are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

Monday, July 10

1253: An officer stopped a motor vehicle at Revere and Shirley Sts. for the civil moving infractions of speeding and operating a motor vehicle with an expired registration. The officer gave  the operator a verbal warning for the speeding infraction and a written warning for the registration infraction.

1753: Public safety personnel responded to a report of a dog bite on Winthrop St. The officer filed a report.

1857: A resident came into the station to report a case of identity theft in which a credit card was opened in her name. The officer filed a report.

Tuesday, July 11

0729: A report of a dead animal in the middle of a roadway was referred to the DPW.

0807: A resident reported finding a loose dog without a tag on Maryland Ave. An officer came by to take possession of the dog and brought it to the Animal Control Officer. The owner called to report the missing dog and came by to pick up the dog.

1053: An officer stopped a motor vehicle on Cross St. for the civil moving infraction of a marked lanes violation. The officer gave a verbal warning to the operator.

1200: A tow was ordered for a disabled motor vehicle on Shirley St.

1257: A resident came into the station to report a case of identity theft in which someone attempted to open a line of credit in her name. The officer filed a report.

1318: An officer ordered a tow for a motor vehicle with a registration revoked for insurance cancellation, which is a criminal offense, on Shirley St. The officer issued a citation to the operator.

1755: An officer responded to a report of a dog running loose around Massa Playground. The dog and its owner had left the scene before the officer arrived.

1850: A resident came into the station to report a case of identity theft in which someone attempted to open a credit card in her name. The officer filed a report.

Wednesday, July 12

0028: An officer stopped a motor vehicle at Revere St. and Summit Ave. for the civil moving infraction of failing to stop for a traffic control sign or signal. The officer issued a citation to the operator.

0906: An officer stopped a motor vehicle on Pauline St. for the civil moving infraction of a stop sign violation. The officer issued a citation to the operator.

1001: An officer stopped a motor vehicle on Shirley St. for the civil moving infraction of a stop sign violation. The officer gave a verbal warning to the operator.

1059: An officer stopped a motor vehicle on Putnam St. for the civil moving infraction of a stop sign violation. The officer issued a citation to the operator.

1228: A resident came into the station to report a case of identity theft. The officer filed a report.

1250: An officer responded to a report of a hit-and-run accident at Pleasant and Pauline Sts. in which a person towing a boat trailer allegedly struck and damaged the traffic light pole at the intersection. The officer was able to trace the boat trailer to a recently-released trailer from G&J Towing, where the trailer had been towed two weeks previously because it did not have a registration plate. The officer mailed a citation to the person who had come to pick up the trailer at the tow yard for the criminal offense of leaving the scene of an accident after causing property damage.

1406: A resident came into the station to report being the victim of a hit-and-run motor vehicle accident. The officer filed a report.

1509: An officer stopped a motor vehicle at Hillside and Cottage Aves. for the civil moving infraction of making an illegal right turn. The officer gave a verbal warning to the operator.

1522: An officer ordered a tow for a motor vehicle on Veterans Rd. after determining that the vehicle was uninsured and the operator did not have a valid driver’s license. The officer issued a citation to the operator for both offenses, which are criminal.

1550: A person came into the station to report being the victim of a hit-and-run motor vehicle accident. The officer filed a report.

1611: An officer stopped a motor vehicle on Winthrop St. for the civil moving infraction of a one-way violation. The officer gave a verbal warning to the operator.

1640: An officer stopped a motor vehicle at Main and Walden Sts. and arrested the operator, Hector-Maurici Pinillos-Gonzalez, of 312 Shirley St., on an outstanding warrant and for the criminal offense of operating a motor vehicle with a suspended license. He also was cited for the civil moving infraction of using an electronic device while operating a motor vehicle.

2023: Officers responded to a report of an assault and battery at the Dunkin’ Donuts on Main St. The party who fled the scene was traced to a Braintree address. The victim, who was bleeding, was transported to the MGH for facial injuries. The officers viewed video footage to identify the suspect. The officers filed a report.

2158: An officer stopped a moped at Summit and Sagamore Aves. for the civil moving infractions of a lights violation and for not having a plate on the vehicle. The operator attached his plate and the officer gave him a verbal warning for both infractions.

Thursday, July 13

0119: An officer responded to a report of a group of females entering a convenience store and pepper-spraying the store clerk. The officer viewed video footage of the incident and of the vehicle used by the suspects. The officer filed a report.

1200: An officer stopped a motor vehicle that went around the traffic control barricades and into oncoming traffic on Revere St. The officer gave a verbal warning to the operator.

1705: The Animal Control Officer took possession of a small white dog without a collar that was on the loose on Summit Ave. 

1756: An officer stopped a motor vehicle on Revere St. for the civil moving infraction of a red light violation. The officer issued a citation to the operator.

1804: An officer stopped a motor vehicle on Revere St. for the civil moving infraction of a crosswalk violation. The officer issued a citation to the operator.

1931: An officer assisted with traffic control at the scene of a downed live wire at Woodside Ave. and Pauline St.

2031: An officer stopped a motor vehicle at Walden and Short Sts. for the civil moving infraction of a stop sign violation. The officer issued a citation to the operator.

2046: An officer stopped a motor vehicle at Shore Drive and Tewksbury St. for the civil moving infractions of an equipment violation and excessive window tint. The officer issued a citation to the operator.

2101: An officer stopped a motor vehicle on Main St. for the civil moving infraction of a number plate violation. The officer issued a citation to the operator.

2157: An officer stopped a motor vehicle on Veterans Rd. for a civil moving infraction. The officer gave a verbal warning to the operator.  

Friday, July 14

0745: A resident came into the station to report a case of identity theft in which someone committed the larceny of $7000 from the victim’s bank account. The officer filed a report.

1040: An officer directed the operator of a truck that was blocking a driveway on Highland Ave. to move the truck.

1045: An officer stopped a motor vehicle at Walden and Main Sts. for the civil moving infraction of a stop sign violation. The officer gave a verbal warning to the operator.

1103: An officer stopped a motor vehicle on Walden St. for a civil moving infraction. The officer issued a citation to the operator.

1103: An officer stopped a motor vehicle on Walden St. for the civil moving infraction of a stop sign violation. The officer issued a citation to the operator.

1113: An officer stopped a motor vehicle on Walden St. for the civil moving infraction of a stop sign violation. The officer issued a citation to the operator.

1116: An officer stopped a motor vehicle on Walden St. for the civil moving infraction of a stop sign violation. The officer issued a citation to the operator.

1546: A person came into the station to report that her sunglasses were stolen while she was at a local business. The officer filed a report.

1717: An officer stopped a motor vehicle on Pauline St. for the civil moving infraction of a stop sign violation. The officer issued a citation to the operator.

1735: An officer responded to a minor motor vehicle accident in the 800 block of Shirley St. in which both vehicles were backing out at the same time. There were no injuries. The officer filed a report.

1948: An officer stopped a motor vehicle on Main St. for the civil moving infraction of a red light violation. The officer gave a verbal warning to the operator.

1953: An officer stopped a motor vehicle on Main St. for the civil moving infraction of a red light violation. The officer issued a citation to the operator.

Saturday, July 15

0814: An officer issued a warning parking ticket to a vehicle at the Public Landing.

0838: An officer issued several parking tickets to vehicles at the Public Landing. One vehicle with a registration revoked for insurance cancellation was towed. The officer filed a report.

0923: A Walden St. resident reported that all four tires on his vehicle were slashed. The officer filed a report.

1946: An officer issued a parking ticket to a vehicle parked at a fire hydrant on Hutchinson St.

2347: Officers directed persons playing music loudly on their boats at the Atlantic Marina to quiet down.

Sunday, July 16

1600: A Pond St. resident reported that she had been away for four days and when she returned, she found that her front door was unlocked and someone had rummaged through her apartment. The officer filed a report.
