Police Blotter 07-20-2023

The following incident reports are among the calls to which the Winthrop Police Department responded on the listed dates. The log is a public record and available for review. All persons who are arrested or charged with a crime are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

Monday, July 3

1157: An officer responded to the report of a hit-and-run motor vehicle accident on Winthrop St. The officer was given a description of the offending vehicle, but was unable to locate it. The officer filed a report.

1610: An officer directed the owner of a motor vehicle that was parked on the wrong side of the road and hindering traffic at Bayview Ave. and Shirley St. to move the vehicle.

1628: A person came into the station to report that he had struck a crosswalk sign on Revere St. and brought in the sign. The matter was referred to the DPW.

1902: An officer stopped a motor vehicle on Walden St. for the civil moving infraction of a stop sign violation. The officer gave a verbal warning to the operator.

2023: An officer stopped a motor vehicle on Pleasant St. for the civil moving infractions of a stop sign violation and a plate cover violation. The officer gave a verbal warning to the operator.

2207: An officer dispersed persons in a motor vehicle from Hannaford Park, which is closed after dark.

2228: An officer dispersed persons in a motor vehicle from Short Beach, which is closed after dark.

Tuesday, July 4

0112: An officer issued a parking ticket to a motor vehicle on Locust St.

0155: Officers responded to a report of a motor vehicle striking two parked motor vehicles on Quincy Ave. Two of the vehicles were towed and the officers filed reports.

1317: An officer stopped a motor vehicle on Shirley and Sturgis Sts. for the civil moving infraction of a stop sign violation. The officer gave a verbal warning to the operator.

1427: An officer stopped a motor vehicle on Main St. for the civil moving infraction of a stop sign violation. The officer gave a verbal warning to the operator.

1742: An office issued a parking ticket to a vehicle parked at a fire hydrant on Park Ave. The vehicle was moved.

2152: An officer responded to a report of a two-car motor vehicle accident on Washington Ave. The officer assisted the parties with the exchange of papers and filed a report.

2322: An officer responded to a report of fireworks at Coughlin Playground. A male who suffered an eye injury was transported to the hospital.

Wednesday, July 5

0030: An officer dispersed a group of about 30 persons from Yirrell Beach.

1019: An officer issued a parking ticket to a motor vehicle that was parked on the wrong side of the road on Winthrop St. 

1142: An officer issued a parking ticket to a vehicle parked in the No Parking zone on Bowdoin St.

1412: An officer stopped a motor vehicle on Main St. for the civil moving infraction of making an illegal left turn. The officer gave a verbal warning to the operator, who was transporting an ill passenger to the hospital.

1542: The Animal Control Officer (ACO) responded to a report of a dog running loose on Banks St. The employees of the nearby boatyard found the dog and the ACO took possession and returned it to the owner.

1919: An officer responded to a report of a hit-and-run motor vehicle accident on Shirley St. The officer filed a report.

Thursday, July 6

1053: An officer responded to a two-car motor vehicle accident at Veterans Rd. and Shirley St. Both vehicles were towed and the officer filed a report.

1236: An officer stopped a motor vehicle at Waldemar Ave. and Main St. for the civil moving infraction of making an illegal left turn. The officer gave a verbal warning to the operator.

1515: An officer responded to a motor vehicle accident and assisted the parties with the exchange of papers. One of the vehicles with a registration revoked for insurance cancellation was towed. The officer filed a report.

1825: An officer dispersed a trio of middle-school youths from Woodside Ave. where they were harassing passers-by by asking for money.

2121: An officer directed the owner of a motor vehicle parked in a handicapped spot on Court Rd. to move the vehicle.

2137: An officer stopped a motor vehicle on Cutler St. for the civil moving infraction of not using headlights after dark. The officer gave a verbal warning to the operator.

Friday, July 7

1057: An officer stopped a motorcycle on Main St. for the civil moving infraction of passing on the right. The officer gave a verbal warning to the operator.

1132: An officer stopped a motor vehicle at Neptune Rd. and Shore Drive  for the civil moving infraction of a stop sign violation. The officer gave a verbal warning to the operator.

1347: An officer stopped a motor vehicle on Shirley St. for the civil moving infraction of a one-way violation. The officer gave a verbal warning to the operator.

1409: A person came into the station to report a two-car motor vehicle accident on Putnam St. in which his vehicle was damaged. The officer filed a report.

1549: An officer responded to a report of a landlord-tenant disturbance on Main St. The officer spoke to both parties.

1900: A person called the station to report that 8-10 dogs were running around unleashed at Coughlin Playground and that one of them jumped on his young daughter, scratching her. The matter was referred to the Animal Control Officer, who is aware of what has been an ongoing problem.

2135: An officer stopped a motor vehicle on Main St. for the civil moving infraction of a red light violation. The officer gave a verbal warning to the operator.

2137: An officer stopped a motor vehicle on Revere St. for the civil moving infraction of a red light violation. The officer issued a citation to the operator.

2138: An officer stopped a motor vehicle on Shirley St. for the civil moving infraction of an equipment violation. The officer gave a verbal warning to the operator.

Saturday, July 8

0744: An officer responded to a motor vehicle accident on Pleasant Ct. in which a motor vehicle struck a parked van and then ran into a home. The vehicle was towed and the officer filed a report.

1158: An officer issued a parking ticket to a vehicle parked in the middle of the roadway on Bayview Ave.

1218: An officer ordered a tow for a boat trailer — with a boat on it — without a proper registration plate at the Public Landing. The officer filed a report.

1535: An officer directed a group of about 16 persons on jet skis in the area of the Public Landing to get out of the water.

1730: An officer responded to a request from a resident to come remove her late husband’s handgun from their home. The officer filed a report.

2014: An officer assisted a boat owner who had run out of gas in the Deer Island area. The owner was going to call Sea Tow.

2026: An officer issued parking tickets to two vehicles parked on the corner and obstructing traffic in the No Parking Here to Corner area at Tileston Rd. and Pleasant St.

Sunday, July 9

0242: An officer directed a person hosting a loud birthday party at a Bayview Ave. residence to keep it down for the night. 1322: An officer responded to a two-car motor vehicle accident on Revere St. There were no injuries and neither vehicle was towed. The officer filed a report.
