The Winthrop Police Department, long known for its support of community events, held its Third Annual Doug Flutie Jr. Autism Awareness Hockey Fundraiser April 15 at the Larsen Rink at the Mike Eruzione Center.
Teaming up with the Winthrop Fire Department and many local skaters aka the Winthrop All-Stars, a hockey game at Larsen Rink was a no brainer. All proceeds have been and will continue to go to the Doug Flutie Jr. Autism Foundation.
Last Saturday at Larsen Rink the game took place, tee shirts and patches were sold and everyone that contributed in any way walked away a winner. Thanks to the continued efforts of WPD Lt. Steven Rogers, Lt. Mary Crisafi and Detective Samantha Ferrino, the Winthrop Police Department will rank high in goodwill and if history repeats itself for the third time, the WPD will be the highest department in the state raising money for the Flutie Foundation. This year’s tee-shirt was designed by Police Officer Anthony Sorrentino and will be on sale at the Winthrop Police Station for $15 until the end of April, as well as puzzle patches for $10.
A big thank you to Police Chief Terence Delehanty for his continued support of this event, as well as Winthrop Fire Chief Scott Wiley, and members of both departments for their dedication to the event and the community. A huge thanks also goes out to the All-Stars, for making it a memorable and fun event as well as raising money for Autism Awareness.
