What To Do When You Test Positive for COVID-19

So you tested positive for COVID-19, what now?

1. Call your doctor!

2. Start isolating.

Please isolate in your home for at least 5 full days from either your symptom start date or the date of your positive test.

If you’re still feeling sick, do not leave isolation after day five. Stay at home.

Your symptoms must be gone for 24 hours or more to be cleared from isolation.

If possible, start isolating from people in your home: stay in a separate room, if possible use a different bathroom from the rest of your household or clean the bathroom well after each use. Wear a mask if you are around other family members, and don’t prepare meals with your family if possible.

3. Call your close contacts!

Call anyone who you were in close contact with for the two days before your positive test or two days before you started developing symptoms. Let them know that they potentially have been exposed to COVID and need to take appropriate steps.

Your close contacts may also need to quarantine and should get tested about 3-5 days after exposure. Learn more about where to get tested in Revere here.

4. If you took an at-home COVID-19 rapid test and got a positive result, please assume you are positive and follow the instructions above.5. The COVID-19 Hotline (617-933-0797) is available to the communities of Cambridge, Revere, Chelsea and Winthrop. The purpose of this hotline is 1) to provide COVID-19 guidance to people in our communities, and 2) to provide resource coordination to residents isolating at home away from others so that households can meet essential needs during the isolation period. Resource Coordinators are able to provide information on or referral for food, treatment, financial assistance, mask and test access, vaccine scheduling, etc. Hours of operation are M-F, 9-4:30pm, and calls are typically returned the same day
