Anthony Robert Capobianco

Graduate of Winthrop High School, Class of 1984

Anthony Robert Capobianco of Winthrop passed away on February 7 at the Lawrence General Hospital. He was 55 years old.

Born in Boston, the beloved son of Judith Lubell and Anthony R. Capobianco, he grew up in Winthrop and attended the Highland/Dalrymple, the E.B. Willis, Winthrop Junior High and was a 1984 graduate of Winthrop High School where he excelled as a left-handed pitcher in baseball. He went on to attend Providence College and graduated from Suffolk University. Anthony worked in the paving and landscaping industries.

Anthony was the loving companion of Rebecca Todd and the dear brother of Andrew Capobianco of Winthrop, the loving nephew of Lisa Corkhum of Ipswich, Margaret Capobianco of Newton, Angeline and Ricardo Cortez of Newton, James and Gino Capobianco of Winthrop and the late Robert Shoulder, Sheila Pompeo and George Lubell. He was the grandson of the late Mary and Jack Lubell and Ralph and Raffela Capobianco and loving cousin of Casey and George Lubell.

Anthony loved growing up in Winthrop Highlands, playing baseball at Miller Field and attending movies at the Kincaid Theater.

Friends and family gathered at Belle Isle Cemetery to mourn Anthony on Wednesday, February 16 and celebrated his life afterward at the Beachmont Yacht Club.

Daniel Babine, Sr

His Love and Devotion to His Family Was Unprecedented, They Were His Pride and Joy

Daniel F. Babine Sr. of Winthrop passed away on February 18. He was 83 years old.

Daniel was the beloved husband of the late Carole L. (Viscio) Babine. Born in Boston, he was the cherished son of the late Samuel and Margaret (Coyle) Babine.

Prior to his retirement, Daniel was employed as a salesman for H.T. Berry Co. in Canton for over 53 years.

Daniel was a proud graduate of East Boston High School-Class of 1956 and always enjoyed regular gatherings with his reunion group on a continuous basis. Daniel’s love and devotion to his family was unprecedented. They were his pride and joy. 

Daniel was the devoted father of Nancy A. Boudrow and her husband, Richard of Winthrop, Daniel F. Babine Jr. and his wife, Karen of Wilmington, Susan M. Gennaco and her late husband, Steven of Winthrop, Stephen E. Babine and his wife Mariana of Winthrop, Paula J. Maturo of Winthrop, and Jennine C. Macauda and her husband, Michael of Tewksbury. He was the adored grandfather of Stephanie, Ricky, Cameron andhis wife, Breanna, Drew, Nicole and her husband, Bub, Michael, Nicolas, Tomas, Alyssa, Kate, Jillian, Alexandria and Michael and the loving great grandfather of Landon and Logan. Daniel was the dear brother of Arthur Babine of Lynn and the late Raymond Babine. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.

His funeral was held on Wednesday, February 23 in St. John the Evangelist Church-Winthrop and interment followed in Winthrop Cemetery (Belle Isle Section).

Cara Birritteri

Member of Winthrop American Legion Post 146

Cara Birritteri of Winthrop, formerly of Revere, passed away unexpectedly on February 16 at the age of 37.

Cara graduated Revere High School, Class of 2004 and then enlisted in the United States Air Force. She served two terms in the Iraq War, one term in Afghanistan and Guantanamo Bay in Cuba for special services. She was a member of the American Legion, Post146 Winthrop. 

The cherished daughter of Sebastian “Sibby” Birritteri and his wife, Michele and Mary (Guarnotta) Birritteri and her fiancé, Robert Glynn, she was the dear sister of Marisa Birritteri of Revere, Revere Police Officer Marc Birritteri and his wife, Lauren of Saugus, Freddy Birritteri of Winthrop, and Jamie Lee and Jillian Lightbody of Revere and caring aunt to Sebastian and Lily Birritteri and Jayla and Gianna Gulla.

She is also survived by her aunts, uncles, cousins, friends and her beloved Dog Toshi.

Family and friends are invited to attend a Memorial Mass today, Thursday,  February 24 in St. Anthony’s Church, Revere at 12 Noon.

Patricia Hayes Keough

Known for Her Kindness, Warmth, Gentle Wit and Appreciation for All Life Offered

Patricia Hayes Keough died peacefully at home February 19 surrounded by her loving family.

Born in Newark, New Jersey on May 27, 1924, Pat graduated from Montclair State Teachers College high school and moved to New York City in 1941 to attend Barnard College and then the Columbia University – Presbyterian Hospital School of Nursing, graduating with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing in 1946.  Pat worked in New York City as a head nurse at Presbyterian Hospital and then in private practice for several years before marrying Edward W. Keough in1952.

Pat and Ed settled in Winthrop and raised their six children. Active in many children’s and local organizations, from Cub Scout Den Mother to the Parent Teacher Association, Pat devoted her time and energy to her family and community life.

Pat served as a Town Meeting member, taught part-time in the Winthrop Hospital RN-diploma program, and was a long-time member of the Winthrop Historic Society. A passionate reader and lifelong learner, Pat was active in efforts to maintain Winthrop Public Library and was a member of multiple book clubs, enjoying the comradery of her peers and the challenge of exploring different genres.

Pat enjoyed the many benefits of seaside living, and maintained membership at Cottage Park Yacht Club, bowling with the Ladies League well into her late 80’s.

As a loyal and proud graduate of Columbia University, Pat followed the innovations in nursing education and the nursing profession, donating her old uniforms to the Columbia Presbyterian Hospital archives in 2010.

Pat and Ed met on a cruise to Havana and once the kids were grown, they traveled extensively. Highlights include trips to Europe, the Baltic, Northern Africa, the Caribbean, East Asia, and an Alaskan cruise. They also enjoyed quiet time at the family camp in Brownfield Maine.

Pat was predeceased by her loving husband of fifty-two years, Edward W, her sister, Mary B. Hayes, her brother, Charles B. Hayes and sister, Ruth Kahl. She is survived by her children: Edward of Marblehead, Kathleen Adee of Marblehead, Charles and his wife, Nancy of Weston, John and his wife, Andrea of Brookline, James and his wife, Karen of Marblehead and Robert and his wife, Efrance of Winthrop. A cherished grandmother, she leaves ten adoring grandchildren: Myles Lafrance, Micailah, Nicole and Alexandra Adee; Alexander, Cameron and Beau Keough, Garret, Brooke and Shane Keough. She also leaves many nieces and nephews.

Known for her kindness, warmth, gentle wit, and appreciation for all life offered, Pat will be greatly missed by her many friends, and most especially by her beloved family. We can only give thanks for having had her in our lives for so many years and take comfort in all the love she passed on to us.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday, March 4 at 10 a.m. at St. John the Evangelist Church in Winthrop and a Celebration of Life is planned for May of 2022. ​

Interment will be in Winthrop Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Winthrop Public Library and the Columbia University School of Nursing Scholarship Fund.
