Supporting Lydia Edwards for State Senate
Dear Editor,
For the last 30 years, Bob DeLeo served his home town as our Representative, using his acumen and experience to deliver real results for Winthrop. Three Senators joined him over three decades, each combining their experience with Bob’s.
But now, for the first time in recent memory, Winthrop will be represented by two newcomers in the House and the Senate. Many legislators spend the better part of their first year or two learning the ropes — let’s make sure we have someone in the Senate who can hit the ground running. A senator who already has experience passing legislation. Who knows how to get things done.
Let’s send Lydia Edwards to the State Senate on December 14th.
We’re voting for Lydia because she’s a leader with a real track record. With the loss of decades of political experience in our delegation, Lydia’s experience as an advocate, and activist, and a city councilor makes her the best choice to make Winthrop’s voice heard in the Senate.
In 2015, the House and Senate passed a Domestic Workers Bill of Rights, thanks to Lydia’s work and advocacy. Not even every legislator can say their bills are now laws, and Lydia got it done as an outsider. Just imagine what she’ll be able to accomplish from the inside.

Supports Anthony D’Ambrosio for Senate
Dear Editor:
I strongly support the candidacy of Anthony D’Ambrosio for the State Senate on the December 14th special election. Anthony is personally familiar with Winthrop and its issues, considering our town as a second home having spent much of his life here with family residents, fishing at Rocky Beach and experiencing many other town attributes.
Anthony D’Ambrosio has demonstrated his strong commitment to the highest quality public educa-tion, available to all. As a member of the Revere School Committee, he spearheaded the creation of an Equity Advisory Board that brought together parents, teachers, students and other community stakeholders to develop creative solutions that addressed educational inequities. Anthony supports Universal Childcare and Pre-K programs so that parents will not be forced to quit their jobs to pro-vide care and educational support for their children. Anthony will assure that the Winthrop School System benefits from every available state educational assistance program.
Anthony D’Ambrosio recognizes that Winthrop is particularly vulnerable to the threats posed by climate change and global warming. As our Senator he will focus the State’s efforts on resiliency to protect the town’s important infrastructure facilities.
Anthony strongly supports the MBTA Blue Line-Red Line Connector project which would significant-ly enhance Winthrop’s public transportation service to essential economic destinations. Anthony also supports strengthening the Winthrop Ferry program to provide long term service, potentially linking the town’s ferry with a state system.
Anthony D’Ambrosio realizes that Winthrop suffers disproportionally from the adverse impacts of two State facilities, Logan Airport and the MWRA sewerage treatment plant at Deer Island which severely impact the Town’s quality of life, and that the existing levels of remediation from both agencies are totally inadequate. Logan Airport’s noise levels are so intense that over 1,200 resi-dents reside on property that HUD defines as “Incompatible with aircraft noiseâ€. The Logan air pol-lutants consist of damaging particulate matter and other contaminants. Anthony D’Ambrosio sup-ports having Massport be responsible for immediately funding a comprehensive soundproof-ing/HEPA filter program for Winthrop as partial remediation for Logan Airport’s environmental im-pacts.
The MWRA sewerage treatment plant at Deer Island is the direct cause of excessive and often dan-gerous vehicle traffic in the adjacent residential neighborhood. Anthony D’Ambrosio would support utilizing the existing pier to transport the plant’s chemicals by barge instead of by road, and the implementation of a strict neighborhood traffic control program in Deer Island to eliminate speed-ing.
The December 14th election for State Senator is an opportunity for Winthrop to elect a bold leader with a proven track record of educational investment and equal opportunity, a vision of environ-mental justice and a commitment to assure that Winthrop remains a great place to live and work. Anthony D’Ambrosio is that leader.
Thank you.
