Residents Urged to Check Unclaimed Property List

During these unprecedented times, there are not many chances for a simple slam dunk. But recently, as the Boston Celtics continue in the playoffs, Massachusetts State Treasurer Deborah Goldberg has announced the latest grouping of names added to the state’s list of unclaimed property owners.

Over 51,000 new properties worth millions of dollars belong to individuals and businesses throughout the Commonwealth. Folks who have unclaimed property include Celtic’s owners Wyc Grousbeck and Steve Pagliuca, Head Coach Brad Stevens, and the Boston Celtics’ organization itself.

“It is time to block out distractions, take it to the bucket, and let the Unclaimed Property team assist you,” said Treasurer Deborah Goldberg. “During uncertain times, this opportunity to rebound can really help. One in ten Massachusetts residents are owed money. So, call our office today to begin the give-and-go.”

Unclaimed property includes forgotten savings and checking accounts, un-cashed checks, insurance policy proceeds, stocks, dividends, and the contents of unattended safe deposit boxes. These accounts have had too much hang time and are turned over to the state after three years of inactivity.

Last year, Treasury processed over 110,000 claims of over $130 million in property to its rightful owners.

This newly released list includes only individuals and businesses with unclaimed property over $100. To view  www.findmassmoney.com  or call our live call center at 888-344-MASS (6277).
The update of all new individuals and businesses added to the unclaimed property list will be published in the Boston Herald on Sept. 20. In addition, the names will be published in over 30 regional and local papers.
The Treasury releases an updated list of unclaimed property assets every six months as the new accounts are turned over to the Commonwealth. There is no buzzer beater needed for a person to claim this property and, in many cases, claimants will receive interest accumulated.  Don’t miss your chance to take advantage of this steal. Take a shot. Nothing but net!
