DeLeo Secures Funding for New Senior Van

The Massachusetts Department of Transportation (MassDOT) awarded the Winthrop Council on Aging a community transit grant of $46,800 – which the Senior Center will use to purchase a van to transport older residents.  The grants is being matched by $11,700 in local municipal funding.

As part of Speaker Robert DeLeo’s ongoing support of transportation assistance for older adults and people with disabilities, the statewide program – the State Mobility Assistance Program – received $30 million in 2017.

“The senior center van is a key resource for our older residents who need to shop, get to a medical appointment, or visit family and friends,” said House Speaker Robert A. DeLeo. “I was proud to work with my colleagues in the House to fund the State Mobility Assistance Program and am thankful to MassDOT for facilitating this grant. I also want to express my appreciation to the Senior Center for the important work it does for our older residents and their families every day.”
