Anne ‘Nancy’ McDermott

Longtime Winthrop High School Teacher Coordinator

Anne D. “Nancy” McDermott of Beverly, formerly of Winthrop, passed away at the Ledgewood Rehabilitation and Skilled Nursing Center in Beverly on August 22 after a prolonged illness. She was 92 years old.

Born in Brooklyn, New York, the beloved daughter of the late Elizabeth (Greenan) and Harold A. Duryea, she was a longtime resident of Winthrop and was employed for many years as a Teacher Coordinator at Winthrop High School for over 24 years. She was a member of the Massachusetts Teacher’s Association, the Friends of Winthrop Library and the Mystery Book Club.

Mrs. McDermott was the devoted wife of the late Charles McDermott and the loving mother of Joseph McDermott of Beverly, Charles McDermott of Portsmouth, New Hampshire and Anne Porter of Winthrop; the cherished grandmother of Timothy, Christine and Joseph and the great grandmother of Benjamin. She is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews.

Her funeral service was celebrated from the Ernest P. Caggiano and Son-O’Maley Funeral Home, Winthrop on Wednesday, August 26. Rev. Charles Bourke conducted the service and offered prayers at the interment at Winthrop Cemetery. To sign the online guestbook go to www.caggianofuneralhome.com.

Sefika Husanovic

Of Revere/Winthrop

Sefika Husanovic of Revere and Winthrop, passed away August 20, at the Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston after a brief illness.  She was 69 years old.

She was born in Tuzla, Bosnia, where she grew up and later worked as a piano teacher most of her adult life before moving to the United States in 1996.

She was the beloved mother of Dalibor Konchar and his wife, Indira Osmancevic of Winthrop and loving grandmother of Brando, who she adored.  She is also survived by many brothers, nieces and nephews.

Family and friends will honor Sefika’s life by gathering in the Ernest P. Caggiano and Son-O’Maley Funeral Home, 147 Winthrop Street, Winthrop on Friday, August 28 from 12 noon to 1 p.m. before leaving in procession to the burial which will take place in the Belle Isle section of Winthrop Cemetery.
