Well Deserved Honor: Susan Martucci Truly Has Been an Unsung Heroine

The presentation of the Unsung Heroine Award to local resident Susan Martucci is one of the most well-deserved plaudits that we have seen in many years. Susan thus becomes one of a select group of women who have been recognized by the Massachusetts Commission on the Status of Women for their efforts to improve our communities with their daily acts of service.

House Speaker Robert A. DeLeo nominated Susan for this award, which was celebrated by a ceremony held at the Massachusetts State House. As Bob noted, “Sue’s commitment to the school system, her family, and the entire town of Winthrop distinguish her as an integral part of the community and she is truly deserving of this recognition.”

Over the past 20 years, Susan has been a well known figure in the local schools as a dedicated volunteer and devoted mother. She has whole-heartedly committed to numerous committees and positions such as room mother, fundraising chair, PTA President, absentee hotline volunteer, library volunteer, and class advisor.

We know we join with all who know Sue in congratulating her upon this receiving this award. Her recognition brings to mind the words of the poet Wordsworth:

“That best portion of a good person’s life,

Their little, nameless, unremembered acts

Of kindness and love.”
