McMullen, Fucillo take firsts in recent meets

Lauren McMullen and Jenny Fucillo were victors in their respective events for the Winthrop High girls indoor track team in recent meets against Danvers and Marblehead.

McMullen topped the field in the shot put against Danvers with a toss of 31 feet, 5.5 inches and did likewise against Marblehead with a heave of 30-2. Fucillo, the premier hurdler in the Northeastern Conference, handily took first place in the 55 meter hurdles in both meets with a time of 9.2 seconds against Danvers and 9.5 against Marblehead.

The other Lady Viking to garner a first place in either meet was Kaitlyn Hersey in the two mile run against Marblehead in a time of 13:56.8.

Winthrop girls who came through with second place performances against Danvers were Katie Cochrane in the hurdles in 10.4; Christina Russo in the 55 meter dash in 7.9; Gina Giuliano in the 600 in 2:01; and Nicole O’Brien in the mile in 6:46.2.

Third place efforts that earned a point for the Lady Viking cause were turned in by Cortney Nolan in the dash in 8.1; Jennifer Gobiel in the 3000 in 53.4; and Jordan Griffiths in the 1000 in 3:28.1.

In the Marblehead meet, second place finishers were Russo in the 55 meter dash in 7.7; Griffiths in the mile in 5:59; and Julia Wallace with a leap of 4-6 in the high jump.

Nolan added a point with a third in the dash in 8.1.
