Marino Provides Updates on Patriotic Celebrations, 3A Cases

Staff Report

The town is continuing to work on plans for a boat parade and other festivities in conjunction with the nationwide 250 celebrations.

We met with representatives from three local Yacht Clubs last week and have set July 3rd for the boat parade and other events we are planning,” Town Manager Tony Marino stated in his report to the town council this week. “Tentatively, the event will start at the Town Landing with activities and speakers and will finish with the boat parade. The 250th Celebration will continue with other events held around town, but, as I stated above, these plans are still being finalized.”

In other business in his report, Marino also provided an update on the town joining in with the Winthrop Says No to 3A private MBTA 3A Communities Act exemption court case.

Town Attorney James Cipoletta filed a notice of appearance on April 24 along with a motion to intervene in this case on April 28, according to Marino.

“This case was heard by Judge Gildea last Thursday (4-30-26) in Plymouth Superior Court, and Town Attorney Jim Cipoletta was in attendance,” Marino stated. “The case was continued until June 9th to give the motion to intervene time to be heard and for the Attorney General’s office to file its response.”

Marino also stated that he met recently with Winthrop Athletic Director Mark DeGregorio to discuss the ongoing field maintenance and the concerns over the girls’ softball field.

“We are going to meet to finalize an ongoing maintenance plan for all Town and School playing fields to ensure they are maintained to the same standard and to avoid the inconsistency issues that have plagued us for the last few years,” Marino said.

Marino also provided a quick update on the ongoing fire station construction project at the old middle school site.

“The Fire Station design work is wrapping up as we work towards generating bid documents to go out in late June,” stated Marino. “We continue to design the new stormwater pipe and retaining wall required along the new exterior wall of the existing gymnasium building. The fire station architects and our engineering firm (Woodard & Curran) are working to finalize the design so we can have it completed before they backfill the old middle school and auditorium foundation hole.”
