Marsha Kaplan

Marsha (Score) Kaplan, 95, of Winthrop, passed away peacefully after a short illness, surrounded by her loving family on Friday, Jan. 17 at Mass. General Hospital.

Marsha was born in Winthrop to Celia and William Score and was predeceased by her brother, Orrin Score. She graduated from Winthrop High School, Class of 1942.

Marsha enjoyed her time as a resident in Delray Beach, Fla., frequent visits to the casino, spending time with her friends at Café Delite at the Winthrop Center and her job at Playstead Pharmacy in Winthrop. 

Marsha was the beloved wife of the late Melvin V. Kaplan.  She is survived by her daughter, Roberta Temple and her husband, Gordy of Winthrop; sons, Peter Kaplan and his late wife, Kathleen Baillie of Sudbury and Jeffrey Kaplan and his fiancé, Maureen Jenkins of Medford and Jonathan Kaplan and his wife, Heidi of Windham, N.H.

Marsha enjoyed spending time with her six grandchildren: Alison, Will, Melanie, Matt, Lauren and Daniel and six great-grandchildren: Kelvin, Peter, Emery, Matty, Mikey and Max.

Most recently, Marsha received excellent care by the staff at the Winthrop PACE Center. 

At the family’s request, services will be private.

Anthony Visco

Member of Winthrop Elks, American Legion  and Knights of Columbus

Anthony H. Visco of Winthrop passed away on Jan. 16. He was 79 years old.

Anthony was a U.S. Army Veteran. He was a member of the Winthrop Lodge of Elks #1078, American Legion-Winthrop Post #146 and the Winthrop Knights of Columbus-Council 162.

Born in Boston, the beloved son of the late Joseph and Jennie (Pascarella) Visco, he was the dear brother of Carmella M. “Ella” Austin and the late Louis J. Visco and Anna L. Visco, all of Winthrop; loving uncle of Mary E. Ham and her husband, Jeffrey of Wenham, William J. Austin III and his wife, Allison of Salem, Joseph T. Austin and his wife, Teresa of San Diego, Calif., and Linda A. Austin of Winthrop. He is also survived by several grand-nieces and grand nephews.

Funeral arrangements were  by the Maurice W. Kirby Funeral Home, 210 Winthrop St., Winthrop. A Funeral Mass was celebrated in St. John the Evangelist Church-Winthrop on Wednesday, January 22.
